Misattribution of Cause
Teenagers are particularly vulnerable to manipulation due to the complex interplay of biological, psychological, and social changes during adolescence. Hormonal surges and shifts in neurotransmitters, such as dopamine and serotonin, trigger profound physical and emotional changes. These can manifest as intense mood swings, heightened anxiety, bursts of anger, or episodes of depression, often leaving teens feeling overwhelmed or unstable. Even though these feelings originate internally, teens may misattribute their emotional pain to external sources—peers, family, or environment—leading to confusion about the true cause of their distress.
