"The Philippines have been given the go ahead to export Mangos to Australia" Hey don't get me wrong I love the Philippines and the filipino people but I feel this is a tragic story for Australia. This is how I see it.
Australia has dropped the ball YET AGAIN!!! Australia should be growing the Carabao and other Philippine mango strains in Northern Australia. I'd like to say "we" should be growing them, as in, us Aussies should be growing them, but it's not "we" anymore.. its "them" the multinational corporations.. From what I understand the Philippines has an 8 month long Mango season. And what have we got here? A very short season and whats fast becoming substandard mangos, usualy because they're picked too green but also more disease affecting them now too.
The Multinational mega farms are busy pushing the little guys out... While plagued with RCD disease (Resin Canal Discolouration disease) mostly in their Kensington Prides, so their answer to that is, weaning us off the KP's and trying to get us to eat the flavourless "Calipsos". Comercials on TV about the Calipso every 10 minutes like a broken record.. Just nag guys and maybe one day the hoards will stop walking straight past them in the stores hahaha :-D
And now, yes horror of all horrors.. green mangos, slowely getting greener every year... slowly so we dont notice I guess :-/ and some people actually don't notice... WOW!! ... Green, partly because they they can hide the RCD disease and flog it off before they ripen more and people notice it........ and, wait for it, somebody will comment awww green mangoes are so good for cooking and chutney hahaha. Ok then, but are we now all forced to eat our mangos green???
I tried to suggest in this group some time ago that "perhaps", just perhaps the RCD disease issue is caused by chemicals and their MASSIVE monocroping behavior.... Only to get savagely attacked by a self proclaimed QLD DPI "bigwig" who was no older than 35 max and had a "fresh out of college", skool gal, mindset. Who viciously, yes viciously insisted its fine to eat mangos with RCD disease even when the worst of them have distinct "dirt" overtones, haha, yes dirt.
And when really put to scrutiny, this self proclaimed, super important, so she says, DPI bigwig.. she's probably still in this group too, hope she's reading this hahaha . Flatly refused to make a video of herself eating one to prove to the public RCD disease in mangos is perfectly "safe"... Because while she insisted they are perfectly safe, she won't eat them, "cos they look bad"... Ohhh boy .... Then after falling on her own sword, set about slandering me and this group forever more....... Orrrrrrrrrstraylia Mayte!!! ... Sad really yes? :-/
Beginning this June the Philippines will ship fresh mangoes to Australia where residents have grown to enjoy the fruit in the past couple of years.
