As and say of veggies. This is a great way to think when you’re prepping your meals for the day or week.
There is the goal a 1lb of veggies per day, plenty of protein and some quality fats to round out your meal. Use starchy veggies (yams, potatoes, winter squashes) to fill in as to what feels good for you and your hormones.

An integrative approach is necessary and we can't leave emotions out of the equation, yet I see this happening all of the time. Emotional trauma must be released for health to improve! So many emotional issues manifest in the physical/structural. It's gonna be hard work, but I can no longer ignore that...”

Written by a fellow NTP, Caroline Barringer. Her words resonate with me undoubtedly. I have witnessed this with clients, myself and can see the effects of it on others who surround me.

The hardest work I’ve ever put in has been on my emotional well-being. Nutrition and movement don’t begin to compare. I think it’s the hardest work to do, but has the most rewarding outcome.

I still have ugliness to face from within and it feels like a constant work. I have seasons where I work harder at it than others and seasons I get lost within the ugliness. I have had moments of tremendous clarity and as one friend calls it, I feel like I have “leveled up”. Those moments are worth it ALL and what keep me chipping away.

Bottom line here: EMOTIONAL TRAMA MUST BE RELEASED FOR HEALTH TO IMPROVE.

One of the easiest (and tastiest) meals.

Since the Camp Fire, with the air quality, extra traffic, and "collective depression" I've felt the need to be at home as much as possible. Feeling the need to snuggle my babies and be thankful for the comforts of my home.

I haven't even been to the grocery store since after the fire. I've been digging out treasures from our freezer, including: a whole chicken from Wookey Ranch (in which I made this recipe with), Rancho Llano Seco pork chops and ground pork (which I made breakfast sausage with using Diane Sanfilippo spices) and Alldrin & Sons Alaska Salmon. I've also cooked up some venison steaks and ground lamb from friends.

Sides have included: kale & greens from the garden, and winter squash varieties, asparagus, yams and creamer potatoes (the last of the groceries from before the fire).

With Thanksgiving only days away I will be making a trip to the store tomorrow though.

Trying paleo, going keto, reducing sugars, changing your eating habits at home? Is your family resistant when you try to make healthier food choices for their meals?

My advice: sometimes you’ve got put your own oxygen mask on before worrying about everyone else’s.

LEADING BY EXAMPLE IS HUGE!

If you’re getting resistance from your kids and/or husband, make little changes to their meals the best you can and then FOCUS ON YOU. Don’t give into the resistance, keep chipping away at healthier eating patterns.

Go for rice pasta for them and zoodles for you. Or a gluten free bun for them and lettuce wrap for you. Eventually they will catch on, maybe not all the way but it will rub off on them.

Do you supplement with Vitamin D?

With the cold and flu season in full swing this may be another good reason to add this into your daily or weekly routine.

There is nothing like getting the real deal from food (and sunshine). Found in fatty fish or cod liver oil, mushrooms, and egg yolks. Vitamin D is a fat soluble diet, so be sure you're also getting in enough of those healthy fats (grass fed butter, coconut oil, olive oil, etc.)

Researchers find vitamin D helps the body fight acute respiratory infection.

🍭 Halloween Candy 🍭
🎃 How did you handle the candy loot with your kiddos?
👻 Did you moderate it or let ‘em go for it?
🍭 What did we do? We allowed the girls to dig through it. At this age they are so interested in what it is, what the packages look like, etc. While they did that I pulled out all the candy with peanuts, gluten, and food dyes. We chatted about why these foods don’t fuel our bodies well (not that any candy does). Then I told them to pick a couple pieces from the “okay” pile.
🧙🏾‍♀️ The rest of the candy got set outside for the Switch Witch and taken to school to donate to the troops.
