Seeing my mom for the first time in two years reminded me what really matters.
So much of the fitness world is obsessed with aesthetics:
6-pack abs.
The V-taper.
The “Hollywood” physique.
And don’t get me wrong — how you look does matter in today’s world.
But when my 73-year-old mom came to visit me in Austin this week, it brought me back to the real reason I train…
Yes, being able to take your shirt off in public without hesitation is a level of freedom every man should experience.
But here’s the truth:
If you want to live a long, healthy life, then high-quality nutrition and intelligent weightlifting are non-negotiable.
My mom has eaten well for years…
But despite my reminders, she’s never stuck to a consistent gym routine — until now.
And for the first time, she gets it:
This isn’t about vanity.
It’s about extending her healthspan — not just her lifespan.
So while I love the aesthetic benefits of this lifestyle, this past week reminded me of the real reasons I make my health a daily priority:
To set a strong example for my future kids.
To be the effective leader my business needs.
And most importantly — to avoid looking back in 30 years wishing I’d made my health a higher priority.
At the end of the day, you have two choices when it comes to your health:
Invest today...
or pay the debt of inaction tomorrow.
