We love cross state collaboration 🎉

Yesterday was our first of many Medicaid workshops in GR. These workshops help doulas go through & understand the process, but also most importantly, connects them with one another!

Thank you Lyanna for facilitating this session and Radiant Roots Doula Network /m and Allison Denk Brito for hosting this time.

It's Black Breastfeeding Week!🤱🏽🤱🏿🤱🏾
The theme of this year's celebration is is Listen Up! Reclaiming Our Narrative & Centering Our Stories for Breastfeeding Justice.
From : "Black Breastfeeding Week was created in 2014 by a collective of Black leaders from the breastfeeding field and is celebrated annually from August 25-31. The observance was developed as a response to the high black infant mortality rate, the lack of diversity in the lactation field, and unique cultural barriers among Black women, and shines a light on efforts and initiatives that support breastfeeding among Black families."

Our honoree today is Rickeshia Williams in Battle Creek. Rickeshia wears many hats, but is most proud of her roles as a wife and mother to her son and daughter. She is the CO for Bronson Battle Creek Hospital with QI-TRACS and Executive Director/ Co-founder of Milk Like Mine in Battle Creek. At MLM, she serves as a Certified Lactation Specialist & Counselor, Certified Birth & Postpartum Doula, Childbirth Educator and Postpartum Depression Counselor. She has also recently started a Baby Café in partnership with Bronson hospital leadership.
Rickeshia’s passion for birthwork and breastfeeding support was sparked with the birth of her son, but she has always had the heart of a doula, supporting the women in her circle through pregnancy and postpartum long before she made it a career. Her first breastfeeding journey was easy, but difficulties with her daughter drove her desire to help others in the way she wished that she had been helped. This led to the beginning of Rickeshia’s lactation career in 2011 as a WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor. She is currently pursuing the IBCLC credential through Pathway 3 and plans to expand her reach in birthwork when she begins midwifery courses next year.
Thank you Rickeshia, for being a trailblazer & making Black History everyday! ❤️🖤💚 ⭐️ 🌟 🤱🏽🤰🏾
