Whole Foods Plant-Based Diet for Longevity After years researching diet and nutrition I've put the most credible information into my new books.

If you are on this page it's likely you have read my first book: The Whole Foods Diet for Longevity. You may remember from the Introduction I spent years reviewing the most credible sources available to write this book to help you live healthy, long, and strong. Since changing my diet in 2017, I achieved remarkable results eating whole foods, plant-based. My results motivated me to begin a years long process of researching the most authoritative sources on diet and nutrition published in scientific journal articles, books, and documentaries. One example is Dr. Dean Ornish, the founder and president of the Preventive Medicine Research Institute. Another is Dr. Neal Barnard, president of a 17,000 physician group (PCRM.org) that teaches a diet to prevent and reverse heart disease, the leading cause of death worldwide. As I shared diet recommendations with family, and people at work, those that tried it for two weeks or more got results just as I did. As I saw this information helping people get off medications and be more productive, I dedicated myself to learning everything I could about diet and nutrition so I could help more people.

While individual responses to dietary changes may vary, Dr. Esselstyn's work has undeniably shed light on the transformative potential of a whole-food, plant-based diet in reversing and preventing heart disease. Consulting with a healthcare professional or registered dietitian when considering such dietary changes is recommended, especially for those with preexisting medical conditions.

Beyond its role in reversing heart disease, Dr. Esselstyn firmly believes that a plant-based diet has preventive potential, as it addresses the root causes of cardiovascular problems and can be a proactive measure against heart disease.

Cholesterol Reduction: One of the key mechanisms behind the success of this diet is its ability to significantly reduce cholesterol levels. By avoiding saturated fats found in animal products and eliminating added oils, patients experienced a substantial drop in their cholesterol levels, thereby reducing their risk of further heart-related events.

Low-Fat, Plant-Based Diet: Central to Dr. Esselstyn's approach is a strict adherence to a low-fat, plant-based diet. This means eliminating all forms of meat, dairy, and eggs, as well as minimizing or completely avoiding added oils. Instead, the focus is on whole, unprocessed plant foods like fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, and nuts. That matches Dr. Barnard’s research on preventing and reversing diabetes!

Heart Disease study results:
The outcomes were astonishing. Over a span of years, those who adhered diligently to this dietary regimen experienced a remarkable reversal of their heart disease. Angiograms and follow-up assessments revealed a halt in the progression of coronary artery disease, and in some cases, even a regression of atherosclerotic plaques.

Heart Disease Reversal Studies: Dr. Esselstyn's research includes a landmark study published in the late 1980s, where he worked with a group of patients with advanced coronary artery disease. These patients had previously undergone various medical interventions, including bypass surgeries and angioplasties, yet their heart disease continued to progress. Dr. Esselstyn put them on a low-fat, plant-based diet, free of all animal products and added oils.

Do you know Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn? He’s another cardiologist and nutrition expert, known for his groundbreaking research on preventing and reversing heart disease through dietary interventions. With a career spanning decades, he has conducted influential studies that provide compelling evidence of the power of diet in reversing coronary artery disease.

While they have all done the research themselves for over 20 years, they all share the same goal: improving health and longevity through nutrition and lifestyle choices. Remember, personal health journeys are unique, so consulting with a healthcare professional may help to find the right path for you. 🌿
