Last month during the graduation for the Fall 2023 cohort of Wayfinder Life Coach Training, fellow instructor Jackie Gartman shared a bit of wisdom.
She said: "You can't learn to swim, by standing on the sidelines reading a book about swimming." (Not even Sponge Bob.)
This is true for just about everything in life.
I, for example, have always wanted to be able to do french braids.
I have watched countless youtube videos about french braiding. So many, you would think I am an expert braider, I have so much knowledge.
(Not really but just go with me. It's an example).
I *have* watched a lot of people braid hair. And they make it look so easy...
But every time I try it, I feel like I might as well have two left hands.
Once I even took a braiding class at a local hair salon. I got better after that but when I went home my daughters didn't let me practice on them because I was so awkward and slow, taking the braids out and starting again, over and over.
Who could blame them?
I went back to youtube and watched more videos...I learned about all the different kinds of braids -- french, fishtail, dutch, boxer -- and honestly it made me feel even more like a braiding loser.
So I bought one of those hair mannequins. The kind with actual human hair that you can prop up on a swivel.
And me and my daughter have a plan: We're going to practice on the hair mannequin until we get it.
The point of the story is this: If you want to get better at something, 1) you have to practice not just study 2) you have to keep going even when you hit roadbumps and 3) you have to find someone willing to let you practice on them (if applicable).
That's why if you're a Wayfinder Life Coach and you want to get better and more confident at coaching, I want to invite you to the latest round of Mentoring for Wayfinders where you'll get tons of hands on practice, tips to keep you going from me and herself plus plenty of people who are more than willing to let you practice on them and are not mannequins.

Hurry! I want to work with you and the deadline is August 20th!
And if you are one of those expert braiders, please don't brag.
