Oral Surgeon who specializes in Orthognathic Surgery, treatment of Sleep Apnea, TMJ Disorders, Implants and much more. Dr. Reza Movahed received a doctorate in dental medicine from University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 2007. His residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery was completed at Nova Southeastern University, in which he was exposed to the full scope of the specialty including maxillofacial pathology, dentoalveolar surgery, implant surgery, maxillofacial reconstruction, microvascular surgery, facial cosmetic surgery, and trauma. Following the completion of his residency, he pursued his fellowship in orthognathic and TMJ surgery at Baylor University Medical Center (Dallas, Texas). As of January 2014, Dr. Movahed has joined the Saint Louis University Department of Orthodontics as a clinical assistant professor involved in research, teaching, and overseeing surgical orthodontic cases.

After a severe accident that shattered her jaw joints, Beverly faced numerous challenges: a receding jaw, a constricted airway leading to severe snoring, and the inability to eat properly due to misaligned teeth. Dr. Movahed performed a Lefort 1 segmental osteotomy and a bilateral total joint replacement. Her quality of life has improved significantly. Joi had been struggling with scleroderma and TMJ pain so she had her temporomandibular jaw joints reconstructed with rib grafts which caused ankylosis. This meant her jaws could not function properly. She saught treatment with Dr. Movahed. In a trasformative surgery, he removed the broken down rib grafts, and performed a Lefort 1 segmental osteotomy, bilateral total joint replacement, and a genioplasty. After the surgery, she felt more airflow through her airway which ended 15 years of using an oxygen tank for breathing support. Her mouth opening improved from 19 to 40 millimeters. Just nine weeks post-surgery, she was back on her feet, advocating for scleroderma research in D.C.

Jim had a failed MMA surgery which caused worsening sleep apnea. When he met Dr. Movahed, he was having problems with pain, his bite, and jaw alignment. He was exhaused and depressed from his condition. Dr. Movahed performed a Lefort 1 segmental osteotomy and a bilateral sagittal split osteotomy. The procedure opened Jim's airway. alleviated his sleep apnea and restored his bite relationship. He had a final sleep study which showed his sleep apnea was reduced from very severe 57AHI to mild 5AHI.
