Hi everyone, so sorry for the delay in our updates and this long update! Mason’s schedule is quite packed with therapies and doctor visits.
In March, Mason had his MRI, and the results were great—everything is still stable! It has been 2 years since his last brain surgery, and in May, it will be two years since he finished his radiation therapy. Since he has now been stable for two years, the Nero-oncologist have decided to do the MRIs every four months for the next year instead of every three as long as everything remains stable, which is a huge positive step!
Mason has been working incredibly hard with all his therapies! His vocabulary and communication with us has really blossomed since October last year. He’s mimicking a lot of what we say. He’s using his right hand more, but he’s still not fully using it. However, he uses it much more than he used to, and we don’t always have to prompt him to use it now. He’s still army crawling everywhere or he’ll butt scoot, getting on his knees and hands a lot to get himself into a sitting position. He’s not physically strong enough to walk on his own yet, but he walks a lot with us assisting him or in his walker, and boy does he love to walk!
Mason can count to 10 most of the time, though he might miss a number here and there—usually 7 and 8. He’s also been working on counting to 20! He almost knows his ABCs, knows a lot of his colors, and some shapes! He’s catching on to things a lot quicker.
Mason will be three on April 25th! He’ll start pre-k on April 27th, just once a week for half a day until school ends at the end of May, and then in August, when school starts again, he’ll be going three times a week for half a day. I’m so excited for him to be around kids his age and to be able to play, socialize, and learn more.
Mason will give fist bumps, high fives, and one of his newer ones is giving a thumbs up this one warms my heart so much and reminds me of our friend Sean. Sean would always give the biggest smile and 2 thumbs up!
Mason got to go to his first birthday party and his first Easter egg hunt. There have been a lot of first that he’s gotten to do and we are so excited to watch and see him experience even more.
We took a short trip back to Kansas for Mason’s aunt’s wedding. Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough time to see all of our family, but we did get to see some family, even if it was just for a short time.
Mason’s next MRI is in July, and we’ll do our best to give an update right around then.
We want to thank everyone for the continued prayers and support you have given our family.
