Ngā mihi for all the support waka whānau - I have now closed the survey off as I have been overwhelmed by the number of responses in the last 24 hours and we have reached capacity!!

I expected that it might take a month to get at least 50 responses... we've had 83 in just over 24 hours!!

Again a huge thank you to all of you amazing wāhine paddlers who took the time to share your thoughts and experiences within waka ama. I feel so humbled and honoured by your responses and the time you have taken to complete this for my research project. I will keep you updated on the progress of my mahi rangahau over the coming months.

We've been thinking that it would be cool to bring wāhine together for a weekend of paddling fun. Our wānanga will include on and off-water sessions with Tui and Jas as well as a couple of guest coaches. Get a couple of mates together and come along for what will be a great weekend.

We have 4 spaces left for our waka ama wānanga in collaboration with Ōpōtiki Kura Ki Tai! Hosted at Ōpape Marae this two day wānanga will focus on the basics in W1 and W6 including theory and on-water sessions. We also have a special guest, Aotearoa Open Women Elite coach Sieda Tureia coming to drop some knowledge bombs.

Olivette from Cook Island Outrigger Canoe Association 🌺 Ollie was part of the OG 2004 Elites in Hilo and 2006 in Aotearoa. Ollie is from strong paddling whanau and her #1 idol is her dad Jean 🥰

Introducing Te Rina Leubert from Haeata! Te Rina was part of the Open Women’s Distance team in Samoa who placed 2nd, she recently raced Te Aito in Tahiti and also will compete for Aotearoa in V1 at the Sprint World Champs, an all round paddler!
