I am a professor and the chairman of Rehabilitation Medicine at the Emory University school of Medicine. I came to Emory University from Harvard Medical School, where I directed the traumatic brain injury unit at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital from 1997 to 2007. I am one of the founding faculty members of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department at Harvard and served as the program director of the residency training program from 1994 to 2007. I am the founder and editor-in-chief of Rehab in Review , now thought to be the most widely read publication in the field of PM&R. I also am a third degree black belt and was the American Tae Kwon Do Association Massachusetts State Champion in 2007. in 1990 from the Medical University of South Carolina and completed my residency in Physical Medicine And Rehabilitation at LSU Medical Center in New Orleans.
