Yoga for My Homies No need to feel intimidated here. We’re all in this thing (called life) together.

• donation based yoga group classes on wed/sat/sun 10am & mon/fri 5:30pm at leahi park
• online yoga videos: https://app.namastream.com/yoga-for-my-homies/3374 For the duration of our yoga asana class, we move our bodies while we breathe...riding the breath through poses that open up channels of energy, lubricate joints, strengthen bones and muscles. In an environment that is fun and casual, athletic but gentle, Courtney’s intention for her Yoga for My Homies classes is to bring vinyasa style yoga to a wide audience of likely and unlikely practitioners. And if you happen to learn a few wacky poses that make for good party entertainment or facebook profile pictures, well then, so be it, Homie.

things i learned from doing koko head x10 ⛰️
(post 3 of 3)

yoga sutra 1.14 roughly states that for one’s practice to have any real impact, it should happen over a long period of time, without break, and with sincere effort. this is why we don’t always reach our potential—we give up before we have put in sincere effort for a long time without interruption. why? because doing so kinda sucks! 😆 so, most people stop doing it. we want short term rewards for minimal effort. but that’s not where the juicy, meaningful life stuff lies.
i’ve been preparing for doing koko head x10 for months. arguably you could say years (remember, i did 9x last year. and i recently saw in my FB memories that the first time i did 2x was 14 years ago.), but i have definite lags in consistency over the years. regardless, i didn’t just wake up yesterday and see how it would go on a whim. twice a week for months i’ve been slogging it out doing reps until 3x became the norm. then 4x. then i’d push myself doing 5x or 6x a few times. i let my body get used to the discomfort. i allowed time for my body to get stronger. i was consistent and thoughtful in my preparation. so when people are shocked when they see me going up and down again and again, i just say i’m no different. i just know that the body gets used to what it does often. which can look boring, tedious, monotonous, and uncomfortable. but it is from that regular work and willingness that something bigger, more rewarding, and more impactful can flourish. 🌱

when i feel physically strong, i feel mentally strong. 💪🏼 when i feel good in my body, connected to my body, and push my body i feel strong and that carries over to how i feel mentally—strong enough to learn and study and trust my abilities to believe that i can understand new material and retain said material. 📚
part of why i knew doing this koko head x10 feat would be important to me is because there are two more board exams for chinese medicine i am taking. it feels hard. it feels overwhelming. it feels like i can’t remember anything from one day to the next, let alone from one test to the next. but doing this physical challenge reminds me that i can persevere. i can diligently prepare and set myself up for success. so, i now feel super ready to buckle down, put my head back in the books and pass the next two exams. let’s do this! 🔥

if you ever think you’re voice is too small to make a difference, or your role is too small for anyone to notice, or that that one small thing you do is too small to have any significance, let me tell you something…..
yesterday when i did my 10x reps up koko head, the worst part about the whole thing were the tiny blisters i got on my tiny pinky toes on round 7. they hurt really bad and were the only thing my mind could focus on. i was considering asking someone if i could venmo them for their socks. 😅 then i remembered i had brought toilet paper (in case of a different type of emergency 💩) and had wrap my pinky toes at the bottom of each of the last few rounds because the toilet paper would only stay in place for so long because it would get wet and nasty and bunch up in my shoes.
anyhooo….moral of the story is: small things can have a huge effect. use your voice! you are significant! you can make a big difference in this world! 🗣️

(post 3 of 3)

and boy, oh boy….i did not have “becoming a doctor of chinese medicine at age 50” on my bingo card. yet, here i am. 2 board exams passed and my hawaii license hopefully coming soon. 2 more board exams for my national license in the upcoming months. i am proud of myself for continuing to learn and grow and being open to possibilities that a much younger me would have never thought possible.

‘cuz i’m fifty…fifty years old. 5️⃣0️⃣
(post 2 of 3)

getting older is i even, but my body is strong and healthy and allows me to play—whether it’s koko’ing, yoga’ing, surfing badly, impromptu games of tag, or carrying in hauls from costco—i appreciate all that my body allows me to do on the daily. i do not take it for granted. and i do take a million naps per week, but i’m sure as heck gonna continue to use this body so i don’t lose it.

welp, today is the day i turn the big five-o. feeling so much gratitude for my one little precious life—the multi-faceted layers it has while at the same time being just a simple kind of life.
