My favorite smells from Thanksgiving? Sage stuffing, right when then onion, celery and butter and starting to bubble and you smell all the sage. Evokes memories of many past celebrations where my mother was the one at the stove making stuffing.

Today's FUN FACT: Why do familiar scents trigger such strong memories-good and bad? Smell is perceived at the olfactory nerve in the nose, and sent to the olfactory bulb in the front of the brain, which transmit the message to be processed the amygdala and hippocampus, areas of the brain associated with emotion and memory.

Tell me in the comment your favorite-or least favorite-scents!

Today's fun fact:

Stereognosis: The ability to recognize objects by touch without seeing them. Ladies, ever just stick your hands in your purse and feel around to find your keys, or your phone? This is stereognosis at work.

This ability to find objects by touch alone works best with familiar objects, and requires input from the fingers on both the shape and texture of an object to be accurate.

Sterognosis can be diminished in Alzheimer's disease, supporting the notion that this skill requires a connection between tactile information coming from the hands and the part of the brain that encodes memory of common objects.

Tell me in the comments if you ever read about Helen Keller in school, then just HAD to try tracing the alphabet on your palm to see if you could identify letters....

All that Halloween candy got me thinking about the science of taste. There are tons of fun differences between people when it comes to our sense of taste, and Cilantro is one example! So drop me a comment, do you LOVE IT (Like me) or think it tastes like SOAP?

Some people detest cilantro in their food. Are they more than just picky eaters?

Fun fact: I learned recently that not all of us can "picture this in your head" like a literal picture! In fact I am one of the estimated 2-6% of people tested who have APHANTASIA who is a fancy word for unable to close my eyes and see as clear picture of something I am thinking about. I am a 5 on the scale.

Where do you score on this? Here is a quick test to evaluate yourself.

Note: This is not considered a disease or disorder, more a characteristic about how our brain work, much like being left or right handed.
