🧶Stagnation of Qi and blood in the channels can cause many symptoms in the body including pain, stiffness, fatigue, digestive issues, insomnia, high blood pressure, and negative emotions such as irritability, anxiety, frustration and repressed anger.
⚡️Acupuncture works by needling specific points along the channels in the body to unblock stagnation and promote the free flow of Qi and blood.
🧘🏻By doing this, acupuncture relieves pain, shifts the nervous system into a relaxed state and restores natural healing pathways within the body.
🍃Receiving regular acupuncture treatment can help to combat stagnation caused by overwork and stress and promotes a sense wellbeing.

It’s been an amazing month in Nanjing completing my clinical training and I’m happy to say that I have now earned my Licentiate in Acupuncture! 🎓

During my training I had the privilege to work under Dr Ouyang Gang who is director of the Traditional Medicine and Acupuncture department in Jiangsu Province Official Hospital and works as a Doctor of Acupuncture in the Jiangsu Province Geriatric department specialising in treating various pain diseases, neurological diseases, difficult diseases and stroke rehabilitation with special skills in scalp acupuncture. Dr Ouyang is an excellent acupuncturist with an outstanding reputation and patients who travel from far and wide to be treated at his clinic. I have learned so much from his treatment methods and advice and am excited to put these new skills into practice.

I also had the opportunity to attend lectures at the Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine where TCM specialists in fields such as sports injuries, cosmetic techniques, aging well, infertility, long-covid, stroke and paediatric techniques spoke on their research and experience of using acupuncture to treat these conditions.

Not only did I learn so much from this experience but I made friendships with newly qualified acupuncturists from all over Ireland, got to see some beautiful sights and taste some interesting food! 😂 I feel so lucky to have had this opportunity to immerse myself in learning alongside others who are passionate about TCM and am happy to return home with such great memories. ❤️

Shoulder Pain 🙅🏻‍♂️
Almost every week I treat stiff shoulders with a combination of cupping and acupuncture. Shoulder pain presents in many forms from tension in the neck and shoulders to frozen shoulder with limited mobility. Understanding the cause of pain helps to identify the acupuncture channels involved and can help to recommend steps to take to prevent recurring issues.

☀️ Summer 🌤️

Summer is the season of the heart ❤️
To protect the Shen spirit which resides in the heart, it is important to keep the mind calm and get enough sleep 🧘🏻‍♀️ The heart is associated with the emotion of joy, so it is a good time to honour the things in life that bring you happiness 😊

During this season, Yang energy is abundant in nature and the body can show signs of heat 🔥 While it may seem intuitive to counteract this by consuming iced drinks and cold foods, it is important not to bring coldness into the stomach as this causes digestive problems 🥶 Instead, focus on nourishing the Yin and the heart by consuming foods such as melon, cucumber, watercress, pear, eggs, avocado, oily fish… and avoiding de-hydrating foods such as chilli, alcohol and caffeine ⛲️

If you experience symptoms such as anxiety, mental restlessness, insomnia, palpitations, elevated blood pressure, mouth ulcers or a flushed face during the summer, this could be a sign of heart disharmony in TCM. Acupuncture treatment can help to tonify the heart! 💖

🌸The Spleen🌸

✨ Although the spleen is not considered an essential organ in western medicine and it is possible to live without one, many health issues can be traced back to spleen disharmony in TCM.

✨ Acupuncture points on the spleen channel have a variety of functions including resolving digestive and IBS symptoms, promoting creation of new blood, regulating menstruation and resolving symptoms of dampness in the body.
