🍝When clients come for acupuncture, I always ask about what they’re eating. Our nutrition and digestion are important lifestyle factors that shape our overall health and should not be ignored no matter what condition is being treated.
🍹While a smoothie may seem like an easy way to get a few of your 5 a day, it might actually be causing chaos to your digestive system.
🍏Smoothies are typically cold drinks made from raw fruits and vegetables. In traditional Chinese medicine, this kind of food is said to dampen the digestive fire.
🔥 The spleen and stomach favour warm foods to conserve digestive energy and optimise absorption of nutrients to generate Qi.
🧊If you are prone to having low energy and digestive issues such as bloating, constipation or loose stools, this is a sign that your spleen and stomach are struggling and cold, raw foods should be swapped for warm, cooked foods such as soups, stews, teas, etc.
🍊When eating fruits, it is better to eat the whole fruit as a snack so that digestion starts in the mouth, fibre is broken down slowly and blood sugar spikes/crashes are avoided.
🥕When eating vegetables, it is best to cook them first as the digestive tract favours warm conditions and cooked food is easier to break down.
Give this a go and see if your digestion improves!
