In the 8 limbs of Yoga ( ), Ahimsa belongs to the Yamas, it is an attitude developed through practice and means 'being sensitive'.

Experiencing sensitiveness is a way of how awareness is manifested. It is learned in the mat through pranayamas, asanas, and meditation.

What happens in the mat and what happens in our daily lives becomes more evident, caring more about how we treat ourselves, our interactions with other people, and the environment.

Gratitude is a feeling of appreciation, a positive response shown by the recipient towards the giver of such gifts. Our minds can always be trained to experience gratitude, learn to see the gifts of life, and enjoy.

When we express gratitude the hypothalamus is activated and begins to secrete dopamine, known as the feel-good neurotransmitter in our brains. An activator of happiness and wellbeing.

Being grateful makes us more resistant to trauma, and stressful events. Help us improve our physical health and energy. Reduces toxic emotions, improves our mental strength, increases satisfaction.

To establish a daily routine of gratitude awareness it is recommended to have a journal and express your thoughts of what you are grateful for. With time you will notice how your list increases with things you never considered to be relevant. Gratitude journaling is a proven way to overcome psychological challenges.

The 200 hr Yoga Teacher Training at the University of Maryland is a great event to share with others experiences, positive solutions, insights to improve people's lives, and well being.

In our daily lives, we can easily lose track of how to take care of our selves. Lack of healthy habits like bad sleep, nutrition, exercise, negative environments, anxiety, depression can easily debilitate our immune system. This is a good time to take action, change, and take little steps towards promoting self-care and boost our defenses.

Studies have evidenced how diverse meditation can help you protect and relieve from extreme chronic stressors and prevent diseases. Loving-kindness/compassion meditation leads to growing social connectedness through the generation of positive psychological states.

The 200 hr Yoga Teacher Training at the University of Maryland welcomes you to learn more about meditation practices and help you create strategies to improve your self-care awareness and teach them to others.

Is your earth element in balance?

The earth element belongs to one of the centers of consciousness, the root chakra, Muladhara. It is where our primal or survival instincts are revealed.

Summer is a perfect time of the year to balance the earth element by taking advantage of good weather and outdoor experiences.

It is highly recommended to nourish the relationship with mother earth by engaging yourself in activities like barefoot walks in grass, picnics, trekking, hiking, swimming in rivers or lakes, gardening, among others. These activities will help you be present, grounded, practical, and realistic. Improving your relationships with family and friends can help you boost confidence and security.

The following yoga poses can help you balance your earth element and ground:

- Uttanasana (standing forward fold) is a great posture to ease a busy mind, can bring a sense of peace and serenity. At the same time, it slowly stretches the hamstrings and relieves tension in the entire back.

- Malasana (Squat): in this pose, we bring ourselves closer to the earth and we breathe slowly to quieten the chattering mind. Physically, the pose strengthens the lower back, ankles, and calves while opening the hips.

- Virabhadrasana II (Warrior II): This pose helps us to ground the energy so that we feel strong, stable, and ready to face our fears and doubts.

The University of Maryland School of Medicine Center for Integrative Medicine, offers a hatha based, evidence informed teacher training, that trains in both the physical and subtle bodies.
