Nutrition By Kiah The PNW Clinic is Australia’s Leading Online Nutrition and Dietetics Clinic. Welcome to Nutrition By Kiah. Hey, I'm Kiah! www.nutritionbykiah.com

Our dietitians specialise in eating disorders and disordered eating, gut and digestive health, plant based and vegan nutrition and women’s health. Non-diet, neuro-affirming intuitive eating and eating disorder dietitian. For years, I was always trying the latest fad diets, obsessing over food and counting calories. I in constant war with food and my own body. I was deep in the binge-restrict cycle, feeling anxious and guilty about everything I ate. My recovery journey was pivotal in why I went to university and studied to become a Accredited Practicing Dietitian and underwent additional training to become a Credentialed Eating Disorder Clinician with the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Eating Disorders. Now, help people find a more sustainable, compassionate approach to eating. One that aligns with your values, not diet culture. One that supports nourishment, not perfection, and one that brings you toward feeling peaceful around food again. If any of this resonates, you're in the right place.

I’ve started keeping a notes list in my phone of some of my favourite quotes, because who thinks of these all the time.

But I definitely love looking at them, and spending a bit of time reflecting inwards - it’s some thing that we often don’t get time to do when we live busy lives.

Feel free to share your own favourite quotes or something that’s resonated with you

ADHD & eating can be difficult

But not always - a key characteristic of ADHD is we can sometimes have all the motivation in the world and do absolutely everything, and then the next moment feel like we can’t do anything but potato on the couch.

I read a quote once that said, to have the massive amounts of energy and motivation days, we have to have the potato days. I feel like that really resonates to me.

In saying that, it does make things difficult where even on the potato days, we still have to eat and nourish our body.

There’s a few things that make that even trickier - time blindness, executive dysfunction, low dopamine and struggling with interoception.

So here are a few of my thoughts.

With everything, take what you need and leave what you don’t.

Because I’m always looking for examples of affirmations to send to clients.

You may be someone that finds these helpful.

Maybe not.

Take what aligns with you, leave what doesn’t.

Last weekend I had the privilege of being part of the first ever Wellness Weekend. ✨

It was nothing short of incredible to say the least!

Day 1 - We were hosted by for an incredible welcome dinner which featured the most gorgeous table decorations 🍅 🍅

Day 2 - We kicked off the day with Sunrise yoga followed by a nourishing & colourful breakfast. I hosted a Superfood Masterclass speaking all things building a healthy diet with a practical snack building component. We finished off the day with a sound healing class & dinner at the chairman’s lounge (with another incredible table display).

Day 3 - We started the day with a high energy Pilates class (with DJ) by , followed by a tasty breakfast on the Pier.

Thank you again to the team for having me, and all the wonderful people I met at the event!

Last week was hectic for me. We ended up in hospital 3 times with my daughter and a lot of stress and sleepless night. The thing is, these things happen. As we go through life it’s normal to have ups and downs - times where everything feels calm and content, and times where is chaotic.

When it is in those chaotic modes (like it was last night) everything can start to get out of wack - sleep, eating & general self care.

When I feel like this, I always like to go back to my ☀️ baseline habits ☀️ - things that when I do them, get me back to feeling my best.

These are just some of them:

✅ Grocery shopping (so we actually have food in the house)
✅ Eating regularly even if it is repetitive food
✅ Visually planning out what I’m going to eat to reduce the daily decision fatigue
✅ Getting some sunlight in (with SPF) of course
✅ Moving my body - going to the gym where I can but also just generally moving it more during the day
✅ Using a habit tracker to remind me of all the things I’m doing

Have been speaking a lot about comparison in clinic recently.

They say “comparison is the thief of joy” and whilst that’s true, I believe it takes a lot more than just joy.

It can paralyse us from starting to do things, feeling like we’re so behind. It can make us be so internally worried about what other people will think - even though this is so often just a prediction of the mind.

It can make us unable to live the life we truly want to.

✨ 5 signs you might be an inflexible eater ✨

Does being flexible with your eating make you feel anxious? There are a few ways that this may come across, and this can be a sign of disordered eating ⚠️

Here are a few ways that inflexible eating may show up:

🍝 Cutting out whole food groups such as carbohydrates or dairy

🧁 Feeling bad or guilty after eating “bad foods”

😞 Avoiding social events to stick to your eating routine

🗒️Spending large amounts of time meal planning

🤔 Constantly thinking about food

🍕 Judging other peoples’ food choices

If you relate to any of the above, it’s likely you have a poor relationship with food that has lead to rigid ways around eating.

This can cause a lot of stress around meals, and lead to overly restrict ways of eating.

If this is something you are experiencing, working under the support of an experienced disordered eating dietitian can help relieve this anxiety around food and make sure you are getting everything that you need ⭐️

If you struggle with your relationship with food, you may be aware of some of the signs of a poor relationship with food 🍫

But what can a good relationship with food look like?

🧁 Giving yourself unconditional permission to all foods (and not feeling guilty afterwards!)

☺️ You don’t obsess over calories of macros, and don’t feel the need track your food

💭 You dont think about food when you’re not hungry

🍕 You don’t have any foods that are banned or off-limits

✨ You don’t feel the need to justify your food choices to others

🍽️ You eat when you’re hungry and stop when you’re full

If you’re not quite there yet, these are areas that you can work towards.

If you don’t know where to start with improving your relationship with food, our dietitians are here to help 💖

You can book a free discovery call by heading to the link in our bio ☺️
