In addition to containing additives the majority of

processed foods also contain sugar and it is this ingredient that we are consuming in large quantities on a regular basis in a processed food diet. And this is the contributing factor in making us a fat society. Not only are we getting fatter, we are now also recording alarmingly high levels of diabetes across all age groups. Basically we have forgotten how to eat the way we were meant to eat...but it's not too late and it's easy and simple when you think about it...
Eat mostly fresh food and minimise the rest i.e. try to maintain an 80/20 ratio of fresh food to processed manmade food and your body will thank you for it :)
