Important op-ed published in U.S. News and World Report today from our senior advisors Kevin Brady and Cedric Richmond making the urgent case for the Restore Protections for Dialysis Patients Act.

In the piece, Brady and Richmond emphasize the need to ensure dialysis patients and their families have the protections they rightfully deserve, highlighting the legislation as "an opportunity to signal we really can work together to make lives better for patients and their families.”

A Supreme Court ruling pushed many Americans with kidney disease off of their health insurance plans. Congress must fix it.

“Being a dialysis patient, it devastates you. Having health insurance, you work all your life for, and when you have children, they need to go to the doctors as well. So why should you be stripped of health insurance when you worked hard for it? And this is something that you need. You have to go ...

NEWS: Former Reps. Cedric Richmond (D-LA) and Kevin Brady (R-TX) are joining the Kidney Care Access Coalition as senior advisors. Richmond and Brady bring a combined 40+ years of experience in Congress — and time spent as Chairs of the Congressional Black Caucus and House Ways and Means Committee, respectively — to our campaign focused on restoring protections for dialysis patients and their families. Together, we look forward to working toward passage of legislation to ensure patients have choice in their coverage and cannot be discriminated against because of their kidney failure diagnosis or their need for dialysis treatment.

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, the Kidney Care Access Coalition — a group of leading kidney care, disability, and patient organizations advocating for passage of H.R. 6860, the Restore Protections for Dialysis Patients Act — announced that former Representatives Cedric Richmond (D-LA) and Kevin Brady...

The Kidney Care Access Coalition – a coalition of patient advocacy, disability, and kidney care organizations – is proud to support H.R. 6860, the Restore Protections for Dialysis Patients Act introduced this week by Representative Mike Kelly, Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, Congressman Danny K. Davis, Congressman Neal Dunn, M.D., Congressman John Joyce, and Congressman Raul Ruiz, MD

Dialysis is incredibly difficult, and we strongly believe public policy should not make life any harder for these patients, many of whom are from historically marginalized communities and who have co-occurring chronic health conditions.

The legislation, introduced on a strong bipartisan basis, will go a long way in protecting dialysis patients and their families around the country – by ensuring that these patients have choice in their coverage and that group health plans cannot discriminate against ESRD patients and their families.
