Are you interested in how energy therapy can benefit your horse, dog or cat? I will be giving a one-hour presentation this week at Equifest in Salina, Kansas with visuals on how energy therapy benefits horses, from the structure of the horse biofield to equine energy centers and current research. Case studies will illustrate positive outcomes on horses with a variety of both physical and mental issues.

Percheron Reiki! Hekter and Dobbin, the 4 year olds, were very curious about the energy. They sniffed my hands, face, back of my head and legs trying to figure out where it was coming from. They were alert, but licking and chewing, which are relaxation responses to Reiki. When I was up close and personal with Hekter, Burt, the 18 year old herd leader, was standing a little ways off, very still.

When Hekter was finished, Burt stepped toward me, stopped for a while and then came closer til he was in my space. He sniffed my hands and face much like Hekter and took in the energy for a while. Burt is recovering from colic and has been stressed from the experience. When he was finished, he walked about 10 feet away, dropped, rolled, got up, gave a mighty sneeze, shook himself all over and licked, chewed and yawned. He also dropped his sheath. All great signs of releasing stress energy. So happy for you, Burt! You made my day!

Challenging herd dynamics at Zuma's Rescue Ranch last Thurs: Captain, Phoenix, Atticus, Fitz, Bliss and Loxley were dealing with Fitz herding the mares Bliss and Loxley. Phoenix the feisty mustang, Atticus the Icelandic pony and then Captain the bay gelding were in the mix, which did not make for an especially happy pen. Atticus went after Captain aggressively and was moved to another pen. Captain looked shell-shocked. Phoenix was kicking the gate and trying to chew the halters hanging on it, Fitz and Bliss were standing back, and Loxley in back of them. Captain was off by himself about 20 feet from the rest.

I stood outside the pen in front of Phoenix and beamed Reiki to all of them. Phoenix gave a few more kicks to the gate, but settled down and so did the others. They all stood licking and chewing, signs of relaxation, and their eyes became half closed and relaxed. So after about 20 minutes, I left because I was getting cold and an uncomfortable practitioner impacts the effectiveness of the Reiki.

Atticus showed up lame Sunday in his back left stifle and is awaiting a vet visit. He is getting distant Reiki to help him relax and heal. He is having a hard time emotionally and now physically, and since Reiki can help on all levels, I will be sending him and all the others distant and in-person Reiki.

Finally caught Ben at Zuma's Rescue Ranch when he was not eating. Lately he’s been preoccupied with the hay net and has shown little interest in the energy I offered him. He took in 10 minutes of Reiki with his eyes half-closed and back leg cocked. Then he walked away and stood in the sun with his eyes closed and dropped. Beautiful day at the Ranch!

Singer at Zuma's Rescue Ranch is getting better! She is walking with less of a limp and her foot looks straighter. She settled into a 30 minute Reiki session and hung in there with me when a speaker nearby began playing Halloween music. Reiki to the soundtrack of Thriller and Manhunter!

Singer is still on stall rest at Zuma's Rescue Ranch with a club foot, so I came into her stall, said hello and offered her Reiki. It took her a little bit to settle into the energy and she stayed right in front of me for almost 30 minutes. Then, when I had my eyes closed, I felt her give me a big head butt. That was her way of saying the Reiki session was over!

Pumpkin at Zuma's Rescue Ranch and I had a sweet Reiki session today. She kept sniffing my hands and lowering her head to the ground and then coming back to my hands. She took a step towards me and closed her eyes and licked and chewed. She was very happy to stay there while I beamed from one hand and softly stroked her neck. It was great to spend time with this sweet mare.

Singer is on stall rest at Zuma's Rescue Ranch due to a front club foot that requires a soft surface. She took a short time to settle into the Reiki, and was happy to stand with her right side to me.

She relaxed quite a bit, lots of licking and chewing with almost closed eyes. Horses lick and chew because Reiki stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, the relax and digest cycle, which causes salivation, leading to licking and chewing. She took in the energy for about 30 minutes.

Ben at Zuma's Rescue Ranch has been reactive and biting in therapy sessions, so he is taking a break.

When I came into his pen, he came up and sniffed my hands, walked around a couple of times and then stopped, faced me and looked right at me. “Why are you here?” he seemed to say. I told him I wasn’t going to ask him to do anything, I just wanted to offer him Reiki.

He was good with that and started to relax. Had a lot of good releases - licking and chewing, half-closed eyes, and cocked back leg. The session lasted around 30 minutes.

Caspian, the gelding with congestive heart failure @ Zuma's Rescue Ranch settled into a 20-minute Reiki session which he directed to his root energy center. He maneuvered himself so my hands were near his back end. He pushed his butt back against my hands, which were on either side of his tail. I’d push back and he’d take a step back.
This went on until I was nearly backed up against the pen fence. Then we’d take a break and start over again when he’d line up straight. He is a horse who really likes pressure with Reiki, and we’ve done this before. It’s kinda tiring on my arms, but whatever Caspian wants, he gets. He deserves all the peace and love in the world. So glad he is spending his last days @ Zuma’s, where we can all love him. It's hard to see in this photo, but his eyes are almost closed.
