As a qualified counsellor, I provide a secure, confidential space to explore difficult experiences, feelings and emotions, without being judged.

I provide this space exclusively online, via video call, a method which research shows to be equally comparable in client experience and satisfaction as that of face-to-face therapy. (Dr Tim Kendall and Dr David Kessler, The Lancet Study).
...........................................................

Having travelled and lived overseas, I enjoy being with people from a range of different backgrounds. No matter your race, culture, sexuality, gender, ability / disability, nationality, faith / non-faith, or social background, you are welcome. I live with a disability - a type of Muscular Dystrophy – something which awakens me, daily, to the reality that life is difficult. I have found, however, that the greatest challenge in life is not always the difficulties themselves but rather how we live with them and how we find meaning and purpose within our circumstances. Over the years I have benefited from counselling and can honestly say that my life is richer as a result.

My experiences of disability, parenthood, travel, work and life in the modern world have meant that the online world has become second nature to me. I do not hesitate to offer counselling exclusively online because I've found great value in connecting with others in this way.

Since graduating from Lancaster University in 1999, I have spent my working life in a variety of pastoral / welfare settings, both in the UK and overseas. I qualified as a counsellor / therapist in 2008 from LST, an affiliate of Middlesex University, and worked for many years at the University of Winchester, counselling students. From there I went on to work as a Senior Counsellor for an NGO in Sydney, Australia before returning to the UK again to set up in private practise, offering counselling online. Without wishing to sound clichéd, it is always a genuine privilege whenever anyone chooses to embark on the counselling journey with me. Being trusted by another is both humbling and inspiring and I hope you will make contact.

Having a disability has taught me when to say yes and when to say no:

“….the content of my website might make me sound like Superwoman, but trust me, I am not! My very real limits mean that I am careful and thoughtful about what I say yes to, making my committments matter.”

“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.”

Really looking forward to watching this series…and hoping it gives people insights as to HOW therapy works and how it can help people to make changes towards wellness.

The BBC has been given access to talking therapy sessions. What it reveals is striking - how managing the mind can transform lives.

“….. My work gives me meaning, purpose and vitality.

I’m also a mum, wife, friend, artist, avid reader, water lover and long-distance carer for three much-loved but fiercely independent (!) elderly relatives, a role that tests my patience and keeps me grounded and frazzled in equal measure. All of this, and the content of my professional experience might make me sound like Superwoman, but trust me, I am not! Life is messy and I have my fair share of doubts, fears, vulnerabilities, pain, fatigue, limits and bad days. I'm human, not polished, and my lived experience as a disabled woman shapes much of who I am and how I work.”

Thinking of all the many people for whom Father’s Day is hard, painful, awkward, traumatic or a smack in the face. These sort of days can totally SUCK! Stay off social media if you can… Life is hard enough without reminders… Get some fresh air and be excessively gentle with yourself. 🙏

To anyone in the market for buying a Father’s Day gift…. Is this the kind of gift you would buy for the father of your children? I get a plethora of adverts selling these kinds of presents and cards, casting Dad into the role of ‘hero’. What is a hero? A strong, fast, charming, good looking, muscular, funny, protective, rescuer who never fails, and is NOT ALLOWED TO BE WEAK! Gosh…

I would urge us all to stop and think about the immense, unrealistic, unreasonable pressure this puts onto men and the unrealistic image this creates for our children (especially boys) to have to emulate… All this expectation on men/ dads is, in my opinion, quite damaging. Is this what modern masculinity has boiled down to?? What a heavy weight…

Some more healthy news for your children might be for them to hear and accept that men and dads are HUMAN. Yes. HUMAN. Shocking, isn’t it? Because humans are not immortal! They are vulnerable. Fragile. Often weak, often scared, often exhausted, anxious, sick, or sad. Human beings let others down, cry, need help, need others and disappoint us.

If we encourage our children to idolise their Dads, it’ll be a terrible day when they discover their Dad is not superhuman (and, believe me, that day will come). Yet if we allow Dads to be the imperfect and beautifully flawed humans that they are, then we allow our children to freely live out their astonishing, inbuilt ability to embrace others with an unconditional and wide-reaching love and acceptance. And THAT is a gift indeed…

To ANYONE who has any connection to boys - boys who either already are or will become- teenage boys, it is imperative that you read this (written by my very talented, award-winning friend) and, if you possibly can, listen to the Radio programmes mentioned (also made by the same friend). They are stunning programmes - 5 short but punchy listens - and oh so so soooo important. This is ground breaking work. A much needed voice in this space. Her voice has been all over the media this week in many forms. Thank you to the boys who spoke (beautiful boys) and, of course, to Catherine! Catherine Carr

I travelled the country interviewing teenage boys. I found openness, thoughtfulness, honesty and vulnerability on topics from s*x, to po*******hy, feelings and isolation
