Exactly-you may not have symptoms now (or you may not understand or be tuned in enough to know that you are), but eventually you're going to feel the effects of peri-menopause, then menopause. It's better to get testing (at 35 and then yearly by someone who knows about bio-identical hormone replacement {BHRT}) and get on hormones when appropriate, than wait until you have blood sugar issues, osteopenia/osteoporosis, heart disease or memory issues.

Happy New Year 🎉 5 Things to Transform Your Health in 2025

1️⃣ Test your hormones. I advise people who do not have any symptoms to do this. If you're a woman in your 20s, 30s, or even early 40s and don't feel you have any symptoms of dysregulation, I highly recommend measuring your hormones. Knowing what you and your hormones look like when you feel regulated is extremely helpful later on when you may not.

2️⃣ Personalize your food plan. This is critical. We often reach quickly for a pill when things are out of balance but we forget how much food can influence our body. Remember that there are parts of our gut where there's only a cell layer between the outside world that you bring in through your food and the inner life of your body. We want to treat that with great sacredness.

3️⃣ Lift heavy weights as early as possible. A lot of women are afraid they are going to bulk up but most women don't do that. I find lifting heavy gives us a sense of power and agency.

4️⃣ Track your sleep. I am a fan of wearables and I use them to track my deep sleep and HRV.

5️⃣ Find purpose and meaning. We know it's associated with healthspan and with longevity. It's so important when it comes to elevating and buffering us especially when we hit challenging, dysregulating times.

What's on your list?

One of the beautiful but most difficult things about aging is transition. You see, at a certain place in your life you can bring some, but not all of the person of your youth with you. Life causes us to ebb, flow, change. We grow, expand, minimize and shrink. People in our lives come and they go as we all change over the years and recognize different wants and needs. At times we may believe that we are losing pieces of ourselves. Recognize that transition points are the way to something new. I pray that you will receive that aging is not a hard stop: it is a culmination of things, an aggregation of things, a dissemination of things. It is a natural progression and an expansion of the self. It is a continued creation of a life lived-all of it, good & bad. It is a part of being

A teacher gave a balloon to every student, who had to inflate it, write their name on it and throw it in the hallway. The teacher then mixed all the balloons. The students were then given 5 minutes to find their own balloon. Despite a hectic search, no one found their balloon.
At that point, the teacher told the students to take the first balloon that they found and hand it to the person whose name was written on it. Within 5 minutes, everyone had their own balloon.
The teacher said to the students: "These balloons are like happiness. We will never find it if everyone is looking for their own. But if we care about other people's happiness, we'll find ours too."
May your day be filled with happiness. ❤️

From his initial success as a jazzy crooner through his generation-spanning duets, his career was remarkable for both its longevity and its consistency.

This beautiful sculpture was built by the Irish people in their own country to honor the American Choctaw Indian tribe. They were grateful because in 1847 the Choctaw people sent money to Ireland when they learned that Irish people were starving due to the potato famine. The Choctaw themselves were living in hardship and poverty, having recently endured the Trail of Tears.
And that is a lesson in how to be a person in this world.
Kindred Spirits is a large stainless steel outdoor sculpture in Bailick Park in Midleton, County Cork, Ireland. The shape of the feathers is intended to represent a bowl of food.

Not all protein is created equal.

Eating a factory-farmed beefsteak and its constituent inflammatory hormones, antibiotics, xenoestrogens, arachidonic acids, and omega-6 fats sends a fire-alarm message of inflammation to your body, to your neurohormonal dashboard.

Eating a grass-fed, grass finished steak or wild game, with its clean protein and omega-3 fats, fuels your body and your hormones in a healthy way. In my opinion, the two meats shouldn’t even be considered part of the same food group.

It is especially important to choose the healthiest anti inflammatory protein whenever possible because toxins that are rampant in conventionally raised meat confuse hormonal signaling, getting in the way of the clear message you’re trying to send to your body and mind.

Organic vegetables tend to have about 30 percent less pesticide residue and reduce your exposure to antibiotic-resistant bacteria by a third, compared to conventional varieties.

How much protein do I recommend? In my book WOMEN, FOOD, AND HORMONES, I recommend that protein should make up 20% of your daily calories.

What are some good protein choices?

▪Nuts
▪Seeds (pumpkin, flax, h**p).
▪Eggs (from cage-free chickens).
▪Wild-caught fish (varieties that are low in heavy metals, such as salmon, mackerel, sardines, trout).
▪Shellfish (crab, mussels, oysters, scallops, shrimp).
▪Free-range poultry (higher in omega-3 fats), preferably dark meat, with skin on.
▪Organ meats (from free-range, grass-fed sources).
▪Grass-fed beef and wild game (maximum of twice per week), including beef jerky with no added sugar.
▪Pork (free of antibiotics and hormones, at a maximum of twice per week) — choose pork chops, pork ribs, and pork rinds (I add chopped pork rinds to my salads as an alternative to croutons).
