Hello, friends of HPPlus! We would like to invite you all to celebrate the coming Learning Disability Week with the Star Project!

On Monday 8 September, we are holding an 'Apple Amnesty – Community Juice Making' event. Bring your apples and a container for the juice, as we will have a juicing machine ready to make fresh, delicious apple juice! We will be at our HPPlus hub, located just behind Dalweem Carehome in Aberfeldy, from 1 pm to 3:30 pm.

We will also be holding our plant sale in the Square in Aberfeldy on Tuesday 9 September from 10am to 11.30am. We will have beautiful plants grown by our Star gardeners, as well as some baked goods also made by us :) all available by donation.

We would be delighted to see you and celebrate this important week with our community!

Glen Lyon Coffee Roasters are running their fourth annual Coffee Academy for young people (aged 16–25) from 13 to 17 October. This fully funded course is free and open to all, and is designed to support young people in entering the speciality coffee industry and beyond. When Star Project went to review the place, our participants were encouraged to take part. It feels like a great learning experience!

Coffee Academy Open Day!
Saturday 16th of August from 9am - 12pm

If you or any young people you know might be interested in taking part of the 2025 Glen Lyon Coffee Academy programme then we’d love you to come and meet our programme coordinator Paula Simpson and have an informal tour of the roastery this Saturday morning. This is a drop in session so just pop in at some point between 9am and 12pm if you’re interested in learning more about the wonderful world of speciality coffee.

We are running our fourth annual Coffee Academy for young people (aged 16 - 25) here at the Roastery from the 13th to 17th October. This fully funded course is free and open to all and is designed to support young people into the speciality coffee industry and beyond.

Students who successfully complete the course are awarded a Glen Lyon Coffee Certificate in Speciality Coffee, an opportunity for work experience in partner cafes and ongoing mentoring and support.

Students will be immersed in all aspects of speciality coffee including:

An introduction to speciality coffee including origins, varietals, processing and shipping.

Meet a coffee producer and/or importer who will explain the challenges of growing and selling coffee.

A practical introduction to coffee roasting

A journey into the world of sensory exploration in coffee.

Understanding and experimenting with different coffee extractions

Barista skills and getting to grips with espresso machinery.

Customer service and team-working in a hospitality setting.

Being able to find a safe usable toilet while you are out and about is a basic human right.

https://www.gov.scot/publications/changing-places-toilets-planning-guide/

Disabled people and people with learning difficulties are often presented with less of these opportunities and especially at weekends.

We (Centre for Inclusive Living Perth & Kinross) are introducing an awareness campaign within the Perth area for better facilities or existing ones to be re-opened and re-assessed for accessibility.

Attached to this post is an image with a QR Code that you can scan. It will take you to a form where you can Rate a Toilet facility. In fact you might be in one while you read this so take the time now to fill out the form please as we need to start to gather the data from YOU!!
