It's 2 years now since we moved from Wales into England and much has changed over that time. Blooming Oils is still going well but nowadays I don't do much marketing or place adverts or go to shows to promote the business. As a result, it runs at a much slower pace which suits me better. We have plenty of long standing customers who keep coming back and who appreciate the care and attention paid to getting hold of the best oils available. I am still finding new oils and experimenting with blends and recipes but at the age of 70, the sense of urgency and hunger to build up the business has, I admit, diminished rather. I'm now enjoying myself rather than fretting about getting to shows and events all over the country.
I've also been using my energies in other directions. Looking after Mum who is now 97 and getting rather frail and helping my partner who is now on dialysis 3 times a week has taken many of my energies. But so has creating a garden to feed us (you can take the girl out of the farm but you can't take the farm out of the girl....) and to grow the herbs and simples I need to create many of the infused and macerated oils I produce. Fortunately, here on the River Severn flood plane we have a wide range of free growing plants which, whilst different from the mountain plants we had available previously, are wonderful for producing oils and charm necklaces. They are also wonderful for our bees which truly appreciate the 7 acres of dandelions we get in springtime! I am hoping to do a new look web page this year which groups oils into regions. We are actively investigating the excellent new oils coming out of Australia and Africa. Kenya in particular, is producing some very fine oils which are completely new to most of the world. I am in touch with a number of exciting new, young distillers in that part of the world and am fascinated with what they are producing.

Bog Myrtle is back in stock!
After 3 years of searching diligently for Bog Myrtle producers we have found 2 new distillers of Myrica gale pure essential oil. One of our new distillers is based in Canada and is producing the best Bog Myrtle essential oil that we have ever found – sweet, strong and almost medicinal in fragrance, it analyses as extremely pure. And it is, of course Certified Organic.

All of the above means that it is also expensive so we have found another distiller – this time from France. This is a conventionally produced distillation and, whilst not the same quality as the Canadian distillation, it is a good commercial product at a more inviting price.

The dearth of Bog Myrtle on the market over the last 3 years has led to some vendors selling Common Myrtle (Myrtus communis) as Bog Myrtle. Please don’t be fooled by this. Bog Myrtle is a different genus from Common Myrtle and has different properties.
Bog Myrtle is often called Sweet Gale to differentiate it from the Myrtle family.

In the light of the Royal Mail joining the latest vogue for striking for more pay, there may be delays on receiving your items purchased from us. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this but can only hope that the stoppages are brief and that the system does not back up too much as a result of the strike days.
If anyone has problems over delays to items shipped please do contact us and we will try to resolve the issue.

Moving House
Well, sorry not to have been in communication with everyone recently. Life has been a bit "interesting". As of the New Year, Mum aged 95, has come to live with us. She is fairly fit for her age but is struggling to get up and down stairs. So we decided to sell the farm and retire gracefully to a bungalow in Shropshire. This will mean major changes. We won't be in Wales any more... The mountain plants which we collect, dry and and put into our beautiful glass vials will need to be replaced by plants which grow and thrive in river valley land. We won't have as much land to look after - so no more llivestock. Unfortunately, it won't mean more time for Blooming Oils.... especially not in the next few weeks as we buy/sell property, arrange to sell off large quantities of farm equipment, riding equipment, machinery, livestock equipment and move us and a business to our new location in Shropshire - Oh and look after Mum.... If we don't respond very quickly, I apologise but life will be a bit busy over the next couple of months....
What I do guarantee, though is that every customer will receive what they order as quickly as it is possible to dispatch the items.
