It is wonderful to watch their practice grow and see their success!!!

10 years ago tonight I was on Mt. Kilimanjaro with my children .proffer (and my dear friend and our AMAZING guide )! After we climbed Kili John Sydney and I spent 2 weeks working in a medical clinic outside Eldoret Kenya together. It was an incredible impactful and special trip.

Over the last 10 years my life has changed in so many ways…..I am now 60 not 50, I am an almost 10 year breast cancer survivor ( I felt the breast mass taking off my sports bra on Kili), I married my best friend, I left academic medicine and changed how I practice medicine , AND I was crazy enough to launch my own company .

What has not changed in 10 years is the importance of my children in my life. They are my favorite hiking and ski companions, the people I love more than life itself and two people I am beyond proud of. I am lucky to be their mom.

I am !

What a treat!

The last time I was in Scottsdale with Sydney it was October 1993. She was 8 months old, not walking yet, with blonde curly hair and a purple Patagonia fleece that I remember was a gift from my next door neighbor. It was our first hiking trip together- she was in a backpack and we hiked in Scottsdale, Sedona and the Grand Canyon. It is actually one of the trips I remember most vividly from those early years and I remember being so in love with my beautiful child and feeling so lucky- lucky to be a mom with many years ahead to share with my beautiful daughter.

Fast forward 30 years…. and now I am the proud mom of an accomplished woman and I continue to feel lucky to call this woman my daughter.

Sydney will not be home for Christmas this year, so we took the opportunity to use a work trip of mine to have a quick pre Christmas weekend together. Yesterday was an all day meeting for me, but today we did what we love to do together- hike. It was a great day!

Thanks to my friend and colleague we had a great time hiking and lucky us just by chance we got to meet on the trail today. At 92 Flatiron Jim lives my motto- “life is short climb mountains”! He climbs Flatiron 3 times a week and I can tell you he was moving fast and was strong and agile on the trail, He was beyond inspiring and his story on the trail was about a life of focus and purpose. He was INSPIRING! (He is the guy in the bright red shirt in the photo behind Sydney)

I am so proud of my daughter .proffer!

The journey for her to get to this place has been long and grueling!

She has worked incredibly hard and has been focused on this goal since HS. Her hard work led her to college at Middlebury, then med school and dermatology residency . Now she and her husband are headed to Chicago for her first choice Mohs Surgery and Cosmetic dermatology fellowship! Although Sydney is genuinely sad to leave Rochester and the incredible Mayo Clinic environment and training she felt the experience of training at another academic center would serve her well. The know she is incredibly excited to work with the dermatology group at Northwestern!

And good news for me- she will be a drive away and not a flight.

I had a fabulous day in Washington DC today!

What an honor it was to be part of the Menopause Awareness , Care and Policy Roundtable and to meet policy leaders and congressional representatives and to experience the on a gorgeous early winter day.

Thank you to Rep Lisa Blunt Rochester ( D-DE) and Rep Michael Burgess ( R-TX) for leading this important initiative on the Hill!

It was incredible to be in the room with so many passionate and committed individuals all working to advance menopause and midlife womens health care through policy change, research funding, partnerships with key stakeholders holders, innovation in care delivery, education initiatives and advocacy.

And it was an honor to meet
