Should you switch to vegan protein for better skin health? Everyone’s biology is different, but if you are someone who suffers from acne, specifically cystic acne, I’d highly suggest you eliminating dairy from your diet, including whey protein. .
For me personally, the biggest difference with my skin came from removing all dairy, especially they whey protein powder I was having every day post-workout. Triggers will be different for everyone, but I wanted to share with you 3 of the reasons dairy can be a major contributor to your cystic acne.
1️⃣Dairy is highly inflammatory as it promotes the production of prostaglandins and leukotrines that cause inflammation, cramps, and pain in the body. The proteins (casein and whey) in dairy are what give it these inflammatory properties -(it’s not just lactose in dairy that causes issues for people). .
2️⃣Dairy is a source of xenoestrogens – or estrogen mimickers – that worsen estrogen dominant conditions, hormonal imbalances and acne. *It is estimated that 90% of human dioxin exposure is through food – primarily dairy and meat products*. The world health organization states that “Dioxins are highly toxic and can cause reproductive and developmental problems, damage the immune system, interfere with hormones and also cause cancer.”
3️⃣Lastly, dairy boosts insulin and insulin-like growth factor which contribute to hormone production, oil production and acne. .
