We at Foundation University Medical College, wish her all the best for her Annual Prof and career as a Doctor.
Godspeed!
"I really wanted a chance to excel at something, so in my second year I decided to prepare for the physiology quiz in Malaysia. A girl in my class saw me studying for the auditions, and said something like: ‘it’s not like YOU’RE going to get in; why are you even trying?’. It’s funny looking back on it now- but back then it hit me really hard. To be honest, if I had to attribute my success to anyone besides my friends, it would be her- that statement motivated me to exceed everybody’s expectations, whether they were high or low. I still worked hard, but I didn’t expect to actually get in. When a classmate told me I had been selected, I genuinely believed she was joking. When I found out she wasn’t, I screamed down from the third floor to my friends saying ‘I made it’! This was probably one of my happiest moments in FUMC, because it set me up for a long road of believing in myself and trying new things. I ended up applying to a research conference in America- with no money, no idea about how things work, or if I would even get selected. People laughed at me for trying- and then laughed even more when they saw my topic, which involved the Quran and it’s beneficial effects on the brain. But I did the same thing I had done in second year- I just motivated myself to excel, and not accept failure as my fate. A few months later I found myself in California, with my poster on a screen in front of a room full of foreign professionals. And today I stand in front of you with something even better- contentment, that these five years were filled with some of the best memories of my life."
