See the impermanence of everything. Everything is changing around you so fast. Even if you want, you can’t hold on to anything. Things come and things go. People come and people go. Their moods change, emotions change. Their way of behaving with you changes. Everything changes. See the impermanence of all things, everything around you. The whole world is changing. Then also you gain strength and fear disappears.

Fear is clinging on, holding on, not letting go. And there is nothing that you can hold on to in this life. Is there anything that you can hold on to? One day you have to bid goodbye to everything. Absolutely everything, including your own body, you will have to say goodbye. This awareness also brings enormous strength from within you and you’ll be able to laugh.

There is a very beautiful poem that says:
“What do you say to a person who is scared of noise but has built his house in the market?
What do say to a person who has built a home on the seashore and hates waves?
What do you say to a person who has built a home in the forest and is scared of animals?”

In the same way, what do you tell a person who lives in society and is scared of accusations, blames and praises?

People blame and they say things, what can you do? Educate and ignore. Even when you have done nothing wrong still people become your enemies. How many of you have experienced this? You did not do any harm to them but they have become your enemies. Similarly, you have not done any big favors for some people but they have become your friends, isn’t it?!
Becoming a friend or an enemy works on some other special law and that is Karma. With Karma you cannot have a reasoning or explanation for certain happenings. That is just how it is. So don’t worry if people blame you for things that you have not done. Don’t get disturbed.

It is easy to say don’t get disturbed. You do get disturbed, but at that time this wisdom will help you – ’It is some strange Karma, let it be there. So what, what can we do? That is the nature of the world.’

In this way you should make yourself dispassionate. One who is dispassionate always remains joyful. ’Kasya Sukham Na Karoti Viragah’ – There is no pleasure greater than a state of mind that does not seek pleasure.

If you are unhappy, you better check if one or all of these are lacking: Tapa (penance), Vairagya (dispassion), Sharanagati (surrender). Tapas is agreeing with the moment. It is the total acceptance of pleasant or unpleasant situations. Vairagya means “I want nothing and I am nothing”. Sharanagati is, “I am here for You, for Your joy.”

If you grumble, that means you are lacking these because when you accept the situation, you cannot grumble. When you take it as Tapa or a state of dispassion or surrender, you will have no complaints. These three purify your mind and uplift you in joy. If you don’t do it willingly, you will do it in desperation. First you say, “Nothing can be done.” Then in anger and desperation you say, “I give up, I want nothing.”

Let go of the past and move happily into the future. Take life in its totality. Some pleasant, some unpleasant experiences happen and then they go away. There is no problem that cannot be solved. The solution is the tail of every problem. Solutions come to you when you are calm and collected; you use intelligence; you are not lethargic but active and you have strong faith in Divine law. Knowing that “I have all the blessings, only the best will happen to me”, you should move ahead.

Anger and aggression are not signs of heroism. They are signs of weakness.

There is no point in brooding. Move on in life. Don’t waste today for what happened yesterday.

Like the waves in the ocean, storms are inevitable in life. No storm lasts forever and no storm can affect the depth of the ocean. Accept all that comes with open arms. Even when the storms come, you are like the ocean, deep as ever.
