It’s in my DNA these days to keep pushing myself to the outer limits of my curiosity. As the distance between my health crash 4 years ago widens with the passing of time, I’ve developed an equal widening in my curiosity about the world around me. I’m reminded daily of my limited time to achieve , know, learn , engage in and participate with the world around me. As of late I find myself rediscovering deep reading, and consuming books again with a passion. Recently I came across a study citing the value of reading fiction in expanding one’s Empathy and ability to think over well over people’s thoughts and feelings. In other words , stepping into fictional worlds increases our ability to more mindfully encounter others and more accurately sense what’s occurring with those around us. As someone dedicated to Healthspan and Lifespan engineering , I’m also looking at what builds character and yields happiness.
Among some of the of the more salient building blocks that we can attach ourselves to are :
AWE
CURIOSITY
FAIRNESS
SKEPTICISM
HUMOR
PATIENCE
ENDURANCE
OPTIMISM
GENEROSITY
I see these as critical to accruing Wisdom in addition as to demonstrating it, especially to oneself. I’ve been working on a ledger almost, of these character aspects that along with much of what we already recognize as instrumental in hacking a better and longer life in an ever expanding field of options, that separately can now elevate our biologies almost to superhuman capacities , unimaginable even a decade ago.
There’s so much, I mean so much occurring at an accelerated pace, that opening ourselves to inquiry of the natural and manmade world can simply leave us without words at the massive explosion in ingenuity , evolution and acceleration. I read this morning that the ‘singularity’ is closer to us than ever , that is the moment that computer capacity will be equivalent to human expression in all ways and possibly outstrip our humanity. And so I remain curious~
