I went to a Tigard Turns the Tide meeting… and every time, it gets me thinking.

What struck me most wasn’t just the statistics—it was the reality that so many adolescents in our own community are quietly struggling with their mental health. Anxiety, depression, feeling isolated… and most of us don’t even realize how close to home it is.

Many think this is something happening “somewhere else.” It’s not. It’s happening here. In our schools. In our neighborhoods. Maybe even in families we know.

The hardest part? A lot of these kids don’t feel safe speaking up.

But conversations like the one at Tigard Turns the Tide are a step in the right direction. They’re creating space to listen, learn, and actually do something about it.

For our community, this awareness is no longer optional anymore…it’s necessary.
