“Those first couple of weeks of breastfeeding can feel like such a whirlwind. Your milk comes in, your breasts feel suddenly fuller and heavier, and you might be wondering: Is this normal? Am I meant to be collecting or expressing all this extra milk? “This is from my first blog of 2026 please do have a read or share with someone who needs this information. Feel free to dm me with any questions I will put the link in the comments .

Nestlé is recalling specific batches of its SMA infant formula and follow-on formula.

This is due to the potential presence of cereulide in the batches below. There have been no confirmed reports of any illness but if you’ve bought one don’t feed it to your baby.

The recall notice states you can get a refund: If you have purchased one of these batches, please share a photo of the product and the batch code via https://www.nestle.co.uk/en-gb/getintouch or by calling our careline on 0800 0 81 81 80 (UK) 1800 931 832 (Ireland) and we will refund you.

You can switch to any other first stage infant formula (if you’re using a specialised milk please contact your health professional). I’m assuming the recall means the affected batches are now off the shelves but you can double check any new purchases.

Batch codes can be found on the base of the tin or box for powdered formulas or the base of the outer box and on the side / top of the container for ready-to-feed formulas.

A list of UK products and batch numbers followed by Ireland.

The hard work of breastfeeding your babies does pay off for their future health 💯so well done to all the mamas and families that support them. 🥰

A new groundbreaking study provides the first global quantification of breastfeeding’s role in preventing chronic diseases.

The data is stunning 📈 and reinforces what we have long advocated: breastfeeding protection, promotion, and support are lifesaving, cost-effective, and essential.

The theme of National Breastfeeding Week 2025 - ‘Hold me Close: the Power of skin-to-skin contacts. Happy National Breastfeeding week to all mamas , parents , and mamas to be . Well done on your journey so far where ever that may be today . We’re you supported to do skin to skin beyond the first hour in hospital ?Let me know in the comments below .

There’s no limit to the amount of contact and affection a human infant can receive; in fact, humans thrive on touch. The more an infant experiences this, the better they develop. When a baby lacks these sensations, they resort to their natural survival instinct, which is crying. This crying can trigger the release of cortisol, a stress hormone, in an effort to gain the parents’ attention. One hour of skin to skin can reduce stress for your baby by 75%. “When placed skin-to-skin on the mother’s chest, the baby receives warmth, protection and food and the brain can develop optimally. The mother’s skin is the baby’s natural environment, and both physically and emotionally the healthiest place for the baby to be.(Bergman 2016)

Take a minute to read this article which perfectly captures BF support groups in community and also the wonderful support and encouragement from First Lady Sabine and our president Micheal D over their time in Aras . They have always been a voice for breastfeeding families and we truly appreciate them.
“There is always a breastfeeding solution to a breastfeeding problem’ is the motto, and mothers often leave buoyed by the advice and encouragement these coffee mornings provide.”

Only 63% of babies in Ireland are breastfed at birth. Countries like the U.S, Australia, and Sweden achieve initiation rates of more than 90%, writes ...

Was your baby born between 37 and 38+6 weeks?
These early term babies might look full-term, but often need a little extra support when it comes to breastfeeding.

From developing suckling skills to coordinating feeds, early term babies are doing a lot of learning in those first few weeks.

📖 I’ve written a new blog post all about this — what to expect, what’s normal, and how to help your baby feed more comfortably.

Great information here for baby wearing parents during the summer Carrying Matters - Dr Rosie Knowles

It’s a bit 🔥 ☀️

Top tips for babywearing safely in this kind of weather (cos babies often still want to be held or you need to go somewhere)…

💦keep well hydrated
🕶find or make shade (brollies are good portable shades!)⛱
🧴protect exposed areas with sun block (zinc based) if over 6m
☀️use single layer breathable carriers (like the MiniSling, cotton ring sling, mesh carriers eg Izmi Breeze or the ultra light solar Integra or Tula Lite)
👍hip or back carries are cooler
🌞go out early or late, avoid the middle of the day
😎use a buggy for transport, (but don’t put cloths over for shade, it just raises the temp, use things like the UV snooze shade)
