PhilHealth offers a wide range of disability benefits to PWDs. This is the main reason why Signapse and Federation of Persons with Disability Associations in Iloilo City organized this event because it aims to educate PWDs about PhilHealth services and benefits to better serve them. The event was held on September 5, 2022 at the USWAG Gym in San Pedro, Molo, Iloilo City in collaborative efforts with PhilHealth Region 6, the Persons with Disability Affairs Office, Ulikid Parents Organization, Rotaract Club of Iloilo City, and Rotary Club of Iloilo City.

Ms. Janimhe C. Jalbuna, of the Public Affairs Unit PhilHealth Regional Office VI, as the speaker provided attendees with an orientation on the services and benefits of PhilHealth.

Senate Bill 1391, authored by Senators Legarda, Aquino IV, Villanueva, Ralph Recto, and Risa Hontiveros ensures that the PhilHealth services of Persons with disability (PWDs) are made readily available for them. PhilHealth implements a No Balance Billing policy for sponsored members in which means all expenses are paid by the government including hospitalizations.

PhilHealth works on introducing more of their services to the public. But do PWDs know about their other benefits?

It’s important to ask.

According to the World Health Organization, there are 4 things that impedes PWDs to avail healthcare services and these are attitudinal, communications, physical and financial barriers. They often experience stigma and discrimination, and receive poor quality services. In the Philippines, many PWDs struggle because of poverty, lack of education and even rely most of their hope to the support that the government provides.

Mabini performed all his revolutionary and governmental activities despite having lost the use of both his legs to polio shortly before the Philippine Revolution of 1896.

He has lost both of his legs to polio but still helped Filipinos in their revolutionary and governmental agendas. Truly he is a remarkable person not just because he is the brain of the revolution. He is also a Person with Disability.
