Changing yourself is only going to go part way to having a happy life. If you're constantly in negative, toxic, loud, overstimulating environments your nervous system will become exhausted so no matter how hard you try to shift your mindset & think positively, your nervous system won't feel safe & it will override your thoughts.

Regulating your nervous system by creating calmer, gentler, more predictable environments is the key to finding balance.

If you're struggling with burnout, maybe take a few moments to review your environments. Is there anywhere you could make a cosy corner or a safe nook where you can rest & regulate? xx

The neuroscience of being at home to recover from burnout.

When you're in stressful environments for too long your nervous system can reach burnout because it's switched 'on' all the time.

The way to switch it off & to regulate is to create environments that are calmer, simpler & predictable. This helps your brain & body to feel safe enough to rest. Once your nervous system has rested, the calm, creative side of your brain will be activated. This will help you to problem solve & gain clarity again.

Healing is a journey & the simplest way to begin is to reduce unpredictability in your home environment 💕

You don't need to do more, be more or try harder, you just need to be in calmer, more gentle environments.

When your nervous system is on high alert for too long it can lead to burnout. The way to reduce the impact is to create a sanctuary you can retreat to often.

Whether it's your garden, a cosy corner in the house or somewhere you regularly visit on a walk. Creating an environment that feels pedictable, safe & gentle will be a huge step towards healing.

If you're going through burnout I totally understand how debilitating it can be. Take it one day at a time, allow yourself to rest & detach from anything that feels over stimulating.

After burnout you don't need to fix yourself, you need to be in gentle environments.

This is because your nervous system is always asking one question: "Am I safe?"

The answer often comes from your evironment. The more predictable, calm & peaceful your surroundings are, the less you'll need to process sensory stimuli so you can stand down from being on 'high alert'

That's why creating cosy, gentle spaces at home aren't just for aesthetics, they're signals to your body that it can finally switch off & rest.
