Unplugging at the place that means the most. I would not be who I am today if not for and the magic that happens here. So grateful it (we) made it.

For and for the month of March I will be highlighting the women whose work has inspired and informed my yoga practice.
Each week, my yoga classes will weave in the teachings of these wise women.Β
🌸
Jessamyn Stanley and her organization offer body positive yoga and examine the intersections of race, gender, sexual orientation and body representation in yoga. Her work invites me to love and cherish my body and to remember that I am here on purpose. The level of deep acceptance I feel when taking her classes is remarkable.
🌠
Susanna Barkataki is a yoga culture advocate and speaks openly about the (de)colonization of yoga. It was Susanna’s teachings that were/are perhaps the hardest and most humbling for me. To sit with the white washing that I was a part of and a party to was deeply unsettling but very necessary. This is an ongoing journey and I continue to learn from Susanna’s thoughtful and humorous IG page.Β
❀
Bre Scullark is a Yogi, Activist and founder of Urban Peace Squad . Bre brings trauma-informed yoga to prisons, to retreat centers, and to black and brown communities often overlooked in the "wellness world." Her authentic, loving, yoga practices makes me feel safe, seen and held.Β

πŸ¦‹
Tari Prinster literally wrote the book on Yoga4Cancer. A pioneer in the field of oncology yoga and a survivor, she is the embodiment of turning pain into purpose. Her evidence-based classes have helped thousands of yogis with cancer feel safe and strong in their bodies and her trainings have guided me beyond one-size-fits-all yoga.
πŸ™
To each of these powerful women, I thank you for your work.Β

This man left an incredible legacy and imprint on my heart. His words and teachings were woven so thoroughly into my work that his words became my company mission statement.
πŸ™ He was the embodiment of compassionate love blended with humor and grace. He advocated that small changes could make great impact.

May you be at peace
May you be at ease
May you be free of all suffering
May you be surrounded by radiant love.

Distraction detox tip for the Sunday Scaries: Sometimes I get really amped up with negative thoughts. I have navigated anxiety most of my life. But one practice I use is present moment awareness. I pull myself out of my thoughts and turn my attention to something joyful, like this little face. I smile, I breathe, and I reconnect to the beauty of the moment, instead of focusing on the fears of things that haven't happened yet and hopefully never will. I do this over and over.
πŸ™
If you don't have a pet, look at artwork, or the way the light hits water. There are beautiful moments even in the worst of situations. The refocusing isn't a silver lining, it's an interruption and it gives your nervous system a break.
Mini moments many times add up.
Sending love ❀

"Self-Care is Not Selfish!"
Sorry for yelling, but if you could take that one concept into 2022, it might change your life like it's changed mine.

"Those places that serve alcohol, what were they called?" This article brought me much comfort and a few laughs that I am not the only one forgetting massive amounts. Highly recommended reading. https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2021/03/what-pandemic-doing-our-brains/618221/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=atlantic-daily-newsletter&utm_content=20210316&silverid-ref=NjQ5NzMxMjYyODA0S0

We have been doing this so long, we’re forgetting how to be normal.
