・・・ . . . 🙉 Can you imagine a “diet” where you don’t eat for 16 hours straight!?!?! It sounds HORRIBLE, doesn’t it? Well, not so fast…
⠀⠀
🤷🏻♂️ And before we discuss that, WHAT actually IS Intermittent Fasting?
⠀⠀
👉🏼 Good question! Simply put, Intermittent Fasting (IF) is a meal timing strategy (or eating pattern) that cycles between “fasting” and “eating” windows throughout the day. So, for parts of the day you don’t eat, and parts of the day you do eat. Make sense?
⠀⠀
🤔 Now you might be thinking, “Max, nobody eats all the time. So aren’t we all IFing?” The answer? Kind of, sort of, but not in the fashion that IF dictates for optimal results. Let’s dive in deeper…
⠀⠀
🔥 IF basically has this 16 hour fasting window throughout the day. However it’s not as bad as it seems. Think about it… you’re asleep for 6-8 hours per night anyway, and that counts as fasting hours. So, really, you have an 8 hour eating window and an 8 hour fasting window during your awake time. Not so bad!
⠀⠀
🧐 Ok, so how does this work?
⠀⠀
🤞🏼 Well firstly, it might work like this… you wake up at 8am. You don’t eat anything containing calories until 12pm. But, to hold yourself over, you drink lots of water, sparking water, black coffee, BCAAs, etc. When 12pm rolls around, you have your first meal. Then, you’re likely full so you wait until about 6pm to have your second meal (lots of calories to spare) and maybe you snack around 730pm before your eating window comes to a close at 8pm. Then, you fast until bed time, sleep and repeat.
🔥 In the simplest terms, it’s just a meal timing strategy that (when followed) allows you to eat larger meals later in the day, because calories that would have been available for breakfast/mid-morning snack were moved to dinner. The reason this works is because people typically “cheat” or “binge” in the evening, so the idea is that if you get lots of calories in during the evening hours, and have planned for it, you’ll likely not binge.
