💚❤️💛🖤 Happy Juneteenth, Freedom Day!

✊🏾 Join us as we participate in a self-guided Juneteenth Celebration, created and curated by UCC's Racial Justice Ministries and Join the Movement for Racial Justice. This year's celebration lifts up African American women as Christian faith leaders, preachers, organizers, and activists!

✊🏾 We invite you to encounter and engage with stories of abolition movements from the early days of enslaved peoples’ resistance, to the many movements that made up the Civil Rights Movement, to the more recent struggles of the Movement for Black Lives, and more. These ongoing movements of emancipation can show us the power of intergenerational leadership – from elders to youth and young adults – as together we move toward solidarity, freedom, equity, and liberation.

Today, on National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day, we are reminded how important it is to check in on our youth. Nearly half of all Americans, 46% to be exact, will experience a diagnosable mental health condition at some point in their lives. Even more striking, half of those individuals will begin to show symptoms by age 14.

When asked, "Did you feel better after visiting us?" The parent of a recent Walk-In Client stated, "We both did. And [client's] dad too. He wasn't in the session, but [client] and I told him about the experience at Walk-In when we got home and he was very pleased."

"We are so glad you all were there for us. I've told my friends with kids and teens about you all and raved about you guys!"

Anxiety disorders- the most prevalent mental health disorders- impact 40 million Americans over 18.
đź’šAnd the symptoms are not always obvious đź’š

As with all things, your mileage may vary because even when two people have the same disorder, they can experience symptoms very VERY differently.
These are some ways that anxiety manifests as something outwardly positive but inwardly pretty terrible. This is just to illustrate that you can't always outwardly see anxiety just like you can't always outwardly see depression.

At last Thursday's Launch Party for the Real Change Initiative: A Mental Health Campaign, Aaron Vander Meer of ClearView Communities Residential Mental Health Treatment Program shared this request with our community:

"Let’s make Frederick a place where mental health is prioritized, protected, and celebrated. So, here’s what we ask of you:

Choose people. Choose real relationships. Not apps. Not isolation.

Choose safe practices. Not places that sell your information to profit off your pain.

Choose licensed mental health professionals. No substitutes. No imposters.

Choose to be part of this movement — talk about it, share about it, and invite others into it."
