05/01/2020
2020 has arrived and for some, our goals may seem huge. You may have been taken down the path of page after page of fitness goals, dietary goals, fatphobia and much more on the latest MLM plan but one thing is certain you want to start the year off the right way.
Some might say that New Year's resolutions are as bogus as the idea of sasquatch himself...although I personally would like to believe he exists. I think that you can choose to change your life, habits, patterns, thoughts, and ideas at any time of the year. However, there is a special energy that can be seized early in a new year if you wish to take that route.
I want to share with you how easy it is to become the victim of a marketing ploy that plays on our biggest insecurities and often leaves us broke, further behind in our goals and with a metabolism that is not functioning in our favor. I also want to say that you shouldn't feel ashamed or spend one minute worrying if you have fallen into this trap. I have fallen hard for this pile of horse s**t in the past and that's why I feel compelled to speak about it here.
Multi-level-marketing...oh how you have plagued our Insta feeds and turned some of our closest friends into marketing stalkers that use our "friendship" for recruitment opportunities and change our friends before our eyes. On top of that, you send a message that in order to live my "best life" like those women I see on my feed I have to drink your shakes, take your pre-workout and supplements, participate in your workout videos and use your one-size-fits-all meal planning and I too will be skinny, fit, in love, on the best vacations, have the hetero marriage you tell me I should dream of (because really I don't see it appealing to the LGBT community at all) work from home and live in a castle oh and have the perfect children.
The fact of the matter is that each and every one of us has our own story related to stressors, diets, food intolerances, medical conditions, ethnic background, goals, intimate partnerships, spiritual practice, friendships, careers, family life and taking health advice from a troll who has sacrificed their financial status to promote a huge MLM corporation has its risks. The risks are to your mental, physical, spiritual, relational and professional health because nothing in life should be considered in isolation we are complex individuals that require a holistic approach.
I am sure my words will be taken harshly by some but if I can offer to any of you some advice it would be this. Get clear with yourself about what you want to accomplish. Is it good health, weight loss, partnership, a new career, family life, a new hobby, community or anything else you can think of? From there ask yourself if you need support getting there how can you do that from a place of wellness, total acceptance of who you are now and whom you want to be later? I promise you that you will better be served to learn about what is causing your stress, addressing the difficult relationships in your life, discovering what foods are good for you as an individual, identifying and addressing any health conditions you may have, incorporating spiritual and emotional health practices that last and most of all becoming self-aware. No MLM, shake, body shaming or Insta life promo will accomplish what you wish to accomplish for the long term.
So Michelle...what this s**t should I do then??? Invest some time in finding the support of someone that meets your goal, maybe a career coach, a psychologist, a nutritionist, a Chinese medicine doctor...someone who has the experience and knowledge to support you in your journey to meeting your specific goals. Someone who paid a start-up cost to get a reduced rate on their shakes and continue the Insta mania might be what you are looking for but I highly doubt it.
For this next decade, I wish you loads of self-love, self-determination, support, health, wellness, and success. And a great big f**k off to anyone making money off of your insecurities that deliver nothing but messed up metabolisms, skewed body image, and a financial loss...
