Sharing this post from a fellow student midwife on the presence of students at a birth... I remember being "uninvited" to one of my first births as an assistant and the uncomfortable feelings that came along with it. It was definitely a learning experience and I am incredibly honored each time I am allowed to attend a birth as a student. Thank you to all of the families who have trusted me and helped me learn so much.

Guess what? It’s your birth. You get to pick who is there. You get to decide who is in, who is out. Who can stay, and who gets sent for “errands” to keep them busy. Who you will call in the dead of night, and who you will let peacefully sleep while you bring life into the world.
