Wanted to share an exciting evening program I will be offering in March of this year.
The Invisible Wound
In Search of Healing in the Face of Trauma and Suffering
• Why or how do we choose a specific intervention to support healing?
(Clinical decision-making?)
• Then, after we have chosen, what do we do when that intervention we
chose does not work? (Clinical Failure!)
I am Steven Weiss, Osteopathic Physician, Educator, and Healer, Clinical Director of
The Medicine Lodge Clinic and Founder of The Altar of Creation School;
Practitioner with 40 years clinical experience.
I invite you to join me for a short talk and open conversation about the mysteries
and challenges of clinical decision-making and healing, mostly focusing upon
trauma and PTSD.
When: March 18th, 2025, at 8pm (2000 hrs.) EDT; 5 p.m. (1700 hrs.) PDT
Where: The webinar will be done on the ZOOM platform. After you register, we will send you the program link. Also, the webinar will be recorded, and we will send the recording to all registered participants.

I want to share my thoughts and experiences with you about something I have come to call the Invisible Wounds... and how working with them significantly increased my effectiveness in supporting the healing of trauma and PTSD.
This Invisible Wound work has proven so profoundly important that I founded a school to train other healthcare professionals in this system... and I call it The Altar of Creation. It represents a distinctly unique approach to healing: a different way of preparing ourselves for work; a different way of looking at patients and their symptoms; and a different way of evaluating and treating symptoms in the context of the whole body based upon how it is put together, how it works, and what it requires to be healthy.
So, what do I mean by the term “Invisible Wound” and why are Invisible Wounds so important in supporting healing?
First, Invisible Wounds are born from trauma. Trauma that has invaded the body and shattered its defenses… and then manifested as some kind of profound but invisible disruption that not only cannot be healed on its own, but which also will
go on to cause unspeakable trouble, robbing resources and preventing the body from healing and regulating itself. The trauma itself can be either physical,structural/mechanical, emotional, or energetic/spiritual.
Second, being invisible, Invisible Wounds are hidden and unseen… unless you understand where and how to look for it and possess the eyes and hands to see it (or the ears to hear it).
Third, the Invisible Wound is not the suffering itself, but rather the silent thing or things that sit at the root or origin of a chain reaction, like dominoes falling… which will eventually lead to pain, symptoms and suffering. Remember, thesource of the problem is (almost) never where it hurts!
Fourth and maybe most important, The Invisible Wound must be identified, and removed FIRST, before any true healing of the pain or symptoms can take place!
This Invisible Wound piece is commonly overlooked by both alternative and conventional approaches that focus upon treating symptoms directly rather than upon evaluating the symptoms within a larger context and trying to get to the root cause behind the suffering.
So, what do Invisible Wounds look like? Well, for starters, the person carrying the Invisible Wound may not appear to be that different, nor do their problems necessarily appear serious on the surface. Yet, despite appearances, they are in a kind of shock… which in my world means that they have lost the ability to self-
heal and self-regulate. As a result, they suffer, have become predisposed to injury, defy proper evaluation, and don’t really respond to treatments.
As an example of one kind of Invisible Wound, I have seen a climber break 18 bones in a fall and be back to training and climbing in 6 weeks. (No Invisible Wound there!)
However, in sharp contrast, I have seen a seemingly healthy young woman end up in a wheelchair with a serious neurological disorder one month after a “routine,” minor ankle sprain (simply after stepping off a curb in the wrong way). Think about it! What is the difference between these two people? It is clearly not the
severity of the trauma, is it? Guess which one carried The Invisible Wound and was thus unable to process the data of the trauma? This particular collection of Invisible Wounds that the young woman with the ankle sprain carried was created
through a combination of childhood abuse, parental alcoholism, a kind of postural collapse, and two car accidents... and was present long before she sprained her ankle… and predisposed her to the horrible outcome!
For her, guided by The Invisible Wound paradigm, successful treatment did not focus upon her ankle at all, but rather upon the silent, invisible, energetic, constitutional shock - damage that was inflicted by the multiple layers of traumas that prevented her body from healing the ankle sprain and set her up for the
ensuing tragedy. Once the energetic constitutional shock was successfully treated, her nervous system began to heal, and finally her ankle was able to recover healthy structure and function. In the end she was pain-free and healing
her ankle.
Another clinical example is the runner who experienced a sudden onset of debilitating knee pain, which was entirely unresponsive to no less than 5 different practitioners and their prescribed treatments, therapies and even a surgery! When I saw the patient 18 months after the onset of knee pain, my model required that I evaluate his knee in the context of the whole body and found, not
a knee problem but an Invisible Wound issue relating to the structure and function of his pelvis. When I appropriately treated the pelvic piece 50% of his chronic knee pain disappeared immediately, and the other 50% was completely
resolved by the end of another month.
Appreciating, seeing, hearing, and healing Invisible Wounds has changed my entire approach as a healer… and changed the lives of so many patients whom I was able to help… that had found no help anywhere else!!
My goal is to help you to develop the eyes to see… the hands to feel, or the ears
to hear the Invisible Wounds… so that discovering, tracking, and healing The Invisible Wounds becomes possible… even easy. It is like suddenly having a new map and guidebook, or a good GPS monitor to support your healing, opening doors to entirely new levels of clinical success that you never thought possible…
on so many different levels! It is about considering the possibilities of seeing and working with pain and trauma... and ultimately in a completely different way.
Remember- the source of the problem is (almost) never where it hurts.
