Ahimsa Life

Ahimsa Life Sharing my passion for yoga with you in individual and group yoga classes, workshops and on-line. Always be mindful when moving
in and out of postures.

Yoga has helped me live well with multiple sclerosis for over ten years. I am blessed to have the opportunity to share my knowledge and experience with others who live with MS. Our yoga practice is based on the yama, Ahimsa, developing compassion, love for yourself and others and Embodied awareness, discovering your body and the healing energy of the universe by following breath, listening to sensations and visualization. May the concepts of ahimsa and embodied awareness guide your yoga practice. Guidelines:
1) It is best to practice on an empty stomach as the body functions with a lot more ease if it is
not busy digesting food. Drinking lots of water throughout the day aids in the body’s flexibility.
2) Arrive 10-15 minutes early to allow time to sign-in and get set-up. If you arrive once class
has begun, please wait outside until the class has completed the opening centering exercise.
3) It is best to wear comfortable loose clothing, as you will be moving around and in many
different positions. BAREFEET will be a necessity to get the proper benefits of the class.
4) Please do only the postures that feels comfortable for you. If you feel any pain or discomfort, stop immediately.
5) It is always best to check with your doctor before commencing any exercise program.
6) For the comfort of others, please do not wear perfume or other heavy scents.
7) If you MUST leave class early, please do a few minutes of your own Savasana (corpse
pose) so that you have had a balanced class. Please leave before the rest of the class begins
Savasana so as not to disrupt their rest time.
8 We highly recommend purchasing your own mat for sanitary and health reasons.
9) Please turn OFF all cellular phones and pagers before entering the studio. I am not my body, mind or feelings
I am not sight, hearing, smell, taste or touch, I am not the senses
My body is but an outer covering for my soul, which is pure and perfect
I am boundless, limitless, the deathless self, ever free
I am the eternal present

Our Story

Fifteen years ago, when I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, I felt hopeless, fearful, angry. I knew that if I was to not only survive but thrive, I had to find a way to peace, hope, love. I found yoga!

I began practicing the physical aspects of yoga (asana) to strengthen, tone, stretch; incorporating pranayama (breath and energy work) to heal; meditation for mental and emotional health; and perhaps most importantly the ancient philosophy of yoga for overall well-being. Yoga wasn’t about going to a studio for an hour a few times a week, I began living yoga one breath at a time.

As I studied the eight limbs of yoga thru ancient texts and modern day teachers, I was drawn to Ahimsa, the first Yama, (I think of the yamas and niyamas as Yoga’s ten commandments). Ahimsa in accordance to the Yoga Sutras of Pantajali, is living without harming, to live with love, kindness, empathy, compassion - from the HEART.

Join me on my journey. I am not my body, mind or feelings I am not sight, hearing, smell, taste or touch, I am not the senses My body is but an outer covering for my soul, which is pure and perfect I am boundless, limitless, the deathless self, ever free I am the eternal present
