On August 7th, 2012, my head started hurting and it hasn’t truly stopped since. I’ve had a few pain-free days after treatments that required hospitalizations, but the pain comes back, and comes back with a vengeance. My neurologists call this a refractory migraine, or Status Migrainosus, or an intractable migraine. I call it my Monster Migraine, and it’s done things like ending my career in Corpor

ate America, causing me to lose friendships, and drastically changing the way I and my family live our lives. I started the My Brain Hates Me blog to document my medical misadventures. As I’ve met more and more people with stories about their own rogue (be it physically or psychologically) brains , I realized that I could do more than just keep a diary. When everything started to go so very wrong in my life, I turned to the internet for answers. There weren’t many answers to be found, and what little information there was… wasn’t helpful or hopeful. Sharing my experiences with treatments, medications, medical professionals, depression, meltdowns, suicidal thoughts, therapy, self-care and coping is a way that I can give back to the people who have shared with me and made me feel less alone. If I can help someone find a treatment that ends or reduces their pain, it brightens my day.
