THE VANISHING RAINBOW 🌈

Today on our train journey back home, my mum and I were discussing some personal concerns for a little while. At that moment, we both witnessed something that flooded us with comfort and inspiration.

It had been a fine morning, with blue skies, sunshine and hardly any clouds. Therefore it surprised me to suddenly notice a brilliant, perfectly formed rainbow sweeping the sky with both ends fully visible to us. Seeing a complete rainbow like this is something that I’ve only experienced once before in mini form at Bassenthwaite Lake.

What made the experience more curious was that the rainbow completely vanished just seconds later when I thought about photographing it. No fading away, no change in weather or direction of the train…just abrupt vanishing without a trace.

Whatever it was, we were grateful for having seen it at that particular moment during a difficult conversation. I’m always going to be one of those people who believes magic still exists amongst the mundane day-to-day, if we choose to allow it in.

As it’s the birthday of a very loving and special Being, Lahiri Mahasaya, I felt like resharing an interesting incident involving him that happened a couple of years ago at my home.

Although I’ve always had reverence for him, it wasn’t until sometime in 2021 that I glimpsed the depth of his love and compassion. I decided to know more about him and ordered his book. A peculiar incident happened on the day this book arrived.

My mum had been meditating at dawn in her usual place and I was floating in and out of some dreamlike state. Among various bizarre and vivid scenes involving the great Guru, I clearly saw him sitting serenely in our meditation room. After getting up I found out that I mum had a vision of him sitting in front of her at the same time and in the same place.

Even now I cannot pretend to know anything about this mighty being, but all I know is whenever I tune into him, there’s this indescribable sweetness spreading from the heart.

Something I’ve learnt through repeated experience is to never take someone’s words at face value. Really sweet words may mask ulterior motives.

Sadly, it’s easy to fall for because as a collective, we hunger for real Love and acceptance. We deserve more of these things but perhaps we aren’t recognising them in the right places.

Some straight-talkers on the other hand may appear blunt but have hearts of gold. Of course, some people are exactly what they present to you 😃

We keep our power when we still our minds and tune in to the energy behind the facade. Then we may decide for ourselves whether we feel at ease or not.

Everything is good, until it isn’t.

What went wrong?

Here are some basic observations about relationships and human nature that some people may resonate with.

The emphasis is on the word “basic”, as relationships of all types are complex and hard to navigate. A 700+ word article or even a 5000 word article would not be sufficient to explore this area without at least some oversimplifications needing to be made.

There’s much room for interpretation through the lens of our own experiences. This is great as long as we don’t risk cherry picking individual traits instead of seeing them as part of the whole pattern. Such patterns don’t emerge from one single conversation alone, but likely have built up over time to the point of no return. The question is, why and where should we draw the line?

Ultimately, we must aim to trust and go with our own instincts about any person or situation. Setting aside the impossible (and sometimes childish) question of who is more “right” or “wrong”, this contemplation is really about doing what we need for ourselves, not trying to fix or change things beyond our control.

A self-reflection on why I've started journaling and why it's important to have a voice.

Even in those times we feel like our voice isn't adding much value, there's likely someone out there who needed to hear it.

Who knows, we might be that person.

There's great power and beauty in the "ordinary".

When sitting down to meditate a few nights ago, a spontaneous flow of gratitude towards Life ended up carving out these few verses.

"A thousand set of arms,
I wish I had to serve,
You gave but never asked,
Far more than I deserve.

The ocean keeps no score,
Of endless thread-like silver,
Rivers, on their serpentine course,
Towards the final giver.

The sun smiles upon all,
Silent sustenance and grace,
Filtering through karmic clouds,
A healing touch, a warm embrace.

Even oceans may run dry,
One day the glow will wane,
Yet you’re still overflowing,
With love that can’t contain.

I can never repay
Such kindness in kind,
A thousand arms grow weary,
May a thousand more I find.

As long as you exist,
In your favour I will be,
When you’re nowhere to be seen,
You’re free, with me, eternally. "

When sitting down to meditate tonight, a spontaneous flow of gratitude carved out these few verses.

I've been meaning to start up a Substack or Medium page for a while, as a way of encouraging myself to write down my ideas more. Sometimes waves of inspiration just pass by at the most unexpected times and it's useful to at least take note...it might mean something later!

Something never quite clicked until a few days ago, when the name Shunya (literally meaning, "zero", "nothingness" or "void") burst through with great clarity. This means more to me than I can currently explain.

The logo design was done last night in about 5 minutes. Had no idea what I was placing together but intuitively I felt it was something to do with "Bindu", another word I kept mentally hearing but didn't understand. To my surprise, when I searched what the Bindu represented spiritually, it was the same symbol that's used in my logo!

Here's my Substack page, should anyone care to take a look. Right now there are just a few poems uploaded, but more to come in due time 🙂
