Gluten Free Honey Teriyaki Sauce

If you are like me, you love a good teriyaki recipe, but most teriyaki sauces are not gluten free or they are full are added sugars we are trying to avoid. But making your own teriyaki sauce can take less than 2 minutes and won’t leave you feeling guilty.

Ingredients:

1/4 low sodium, gluten free soy sauce
3 tbsp. rice vinegar
2 tbsp. honey
2-3 garlic cloves
1 tsp sriracha
1 tsp fresh ginger

Instructions:
1. Mix ingredients together ensuring honey is mixed in fully.
2. Add to meats/fish as a marinade or use as a side dipping sauce.

Alternatives to soy sauce:
- Coconut Aminos
- Bragg Liquid Aminos {Note: concentrated flavour so less is needed during recipe)
- Tamari sauce {Double check you are picking up the gluten free variety}

Healthy Honey Mustard Dressing

It may be wishful thinking, but summer is just around the corner and with that comes warmer weather, BBQ season and of course salad season!

Don’t get me wrong, I eat salads in the colder months, but there are many times that I would rather make myself a huge nutrient dense (and warm) power bowl as opposed to a crisp salad.

That said, if there is one dressing in our house that is always running on “empty” it’s my homemade honey mustard dressing. Not only does this sweet yet savory dressing spruce up your everyday salad, but it doubles as a marinade for chicken or even as a topping to a power bowl.

The best part is that, unlike the supermarket variety, which tend to have many ‘unnecessary’ ingredients, this one can be whipped up in under 5 minutes and only has 5 ingredients, all of which are ingredients you can pronounce.

Not only does this homemade honey mustard dressing taste delicious, but it’s also full of good fats, since the oil used is avocado oil, which is a staple in our household. Check out the recipe below and let me know what you think!

*Please note: dressing should be kept in the fridge once made.

Ingredients:

1/3 cup Raw Natural Honey
3 TBSP Yellow Mustard
2 TBSP Dijon Mustard
2 TBSP Avocado Oil
1-2 TSP Minced Garlic (I tend to just eyeball it and like mine with a little extra kick)

Directions:

Add all ingredients to glass container (I use an old honey jar, but a small mason jar would work great too), mix well and store in the fridge until you’re ready to use. It’s seriously that easy!

One of my FAVOURITE ways to use this dressing is drizzling it over lettuce greens, cucumber, tomato, bell pepper, avocado and turkey bacon. Add pumpkin seeds for that extra crunch.

DIY Healthy Home Cleaning Products

Ditch the chemicals and make your own cleaning products at home with these 5 staples you are sure to have around the house anyways!

Benefits to using DIY cleaning products:

- Safe for the entire family, including your furry friend
- Better air quality in the home
- Environmentally friendly (Less pollution is being released into both the air and water)
- Save money (DIY Cleaning products can be made at a fraction of the cost)
- Knowledge is power (you actually know what is in your cleaning products)
- Smell great (when we use essential oils and fresh lemon as ingredients in our cleaning products, you can bet your house is going to smell absolutely refreshing)

It’s important to note that when we clean with chemical based products, we not only absorb them into our skin but we inhale them as well. Making your own all-purpose cleaning products also reduces the risk of developing asthma according to research, especially in children who are more vulnerable.

All Purpose Cleaner

What you need:

3 cups water
¼ cup white vinegar
2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
2 tbsp baking soda
5-8 drops tea tree oil
* Mix well and pour into spray bottle.

Toilet Bowl Cleaner

What you need:

3 Cups of white vinegar
8-10 drops of tea tree oil
*Add to toilet bowl and let sit for 15 minutes

Easy 3-Ingredient Chia Pudding

Looking for a quick grab ‘n go breakfast that not only fills you up but is jam packed with nutritional goodness? Give chia seeds a try!

These little powerhouses are an excellent source of omega-3 and antioxidants as well as rich in protein, calcium, fiber, and iron. Beyond their nutritional value, chia seeds can help:

1. Digestive Health
2. Skin (acne, eczema & aging)
3. Diabetes Treatment
4. Heart Health
5. Brain Health
6. Boost Energy & Metabolism
7. Weight Loss

Easy 3-Ingredient Chia Pudding (serves 1)

Ingredients:

1 banana (mash)
2 tbsp. chia seeds
1/2 cup dairy free milk (almond/cashew etc.)

Topping: berries, slivered almonds, h**p hearts (optional)

Instructions:
1. Mash banana
2. Mix Chia Seeds with Milk, add banana and let soak for at least 15 minutes
3. Add your favourite toppings and voila!
4. ENJOY!

Notes:
Make a large batch of this and portion it out into small mason jars. Add fresh or frozen fruit and other toppings such as pumpkin seeds, h**p hearts, dairy free chocolate chips, slivered almonds etc.

Shrimp + Lime Tacos anyone? 🌮 On the dinner menu tonight is a delicious combo of Cajun + Lime shrimp, wild rice, onion, bell pepper, piled high on top of corn shells with some fresh avocado.🌯🌶🥑🌽🍤 One pan (except for the rice – and only 30 minutes) Mouth watering to say the least. I can tell you these bad boys are even better fried up with rice the next day as leftovers.🤤 .
I’ve been making a solid effort to cook more home cooked meals lately because, well, the last 6 months have seen a lot of take out. Don’t get me wrong, it’s been great to , but not so great on the pocketbook🤦‍♀️.

Chocolate Bananarama Smoothie

There’s nothing like a delicious smoothie that not only fills you up but helps stabilize your blood sugar, balance your hormones and is packed full of nutrients. Oh and did I mention, it’s a favourite around my household!?!?

Yep, even though it’s packed with 2 handfuls of spinach, my kids can’t seem to get enough of this delicious treat, whether it’s for a quickie breakfast or an afternoon snack ~ it’s always a hit. It’s packed with protein, fiber, healthy fats and greens (the top 4 things that every meal should include!)

Try this Chocolate Bananarama Smoothie out for yourself and let me know what you think! (My taste tester extraordinaire even named it herself!)

Ingredients:

1 banana
1/4 avocado
1-2 handfuls spinach
1 tbsp. h**p hearts
1 tbsp. ground flax
1 tbsp. almond butter
1 scoop chocolate protein powder
Cinnamon (to taste)
1 cup unsweetened cashew milk
Filtered Water (to desired consistency)
Ice (optional)
2 tsp Pranin Organic A-Z vitamins*

Smoothie Tips:
– Blend your spinach and your liquid first to ensure a super smoothie drink
– Use frozen avocado and/or banana to get that smoothie nice and cold
– Swap out cashew milk for nut milk of choice (i.e. almond milk) but make sure you choose the regular unsweetened variety.

Swap outs OR Add-Ins:
– Seed cycling and in the second half? Swap out ground flax for 1 tbsp. chia seeds to still get a good dose of healthy fiber!
– Add 1/4 – 1/2 tsp Maca for that extra hormone balancing boost!

5 Minute Healthy Breakfast Recipe

Are you looking for a healthy breakfast recipe that’s simple to make, yet delicious enough to keep you coming back for more?!?!

If you’re like me, breakfast is often the busiest time of the day and often I’m in a rush to get packed and out the door.

Although I alternate between a healthy green smoothie, gluten free overnight oats and avocado toast with bacon, sometimes I like to switch it up and try an equally delicious and easy healthy breakfast recipe.

Enter the Blueberry Cashew Crunch – a gluten free & dairy free recipe perfect for breakfast!

This was by far one of my favourite gluten free breakfast recipes last summer – especially with fresh berries being in season. One of the reasons I love it so much is that it fills you up and is a satisfying combo of both savory & sweet. The raw cashews give it that crunch, the blueberries (or fruit of choice) give it that sweet touch and the cinnamon is the perfect topper!

Not only is this healthy breakfast bowl a great alternative to overnight oats, but it can also be made in a matter of minutes. Win-Win in my books! It’s also balanced in three, meaning it contains protein, healthy fat and complex carb/fiber which also means it won’t cause a rapid rise in blood sugar and keeps you feeling full longer.

Seriously this is such a simple breakfast recipe that it can be made in under 5 minutes!

Blueberry Cashew Crunch Recipe {Serves 1}

Ingredients:

- 1 apple (I love Gala)
- Handful of fresh blueberries
- Handful of raw, unsalted cashews
- 1 TBSP almond butter (all-natural)
- Cinnamon

Instructions:

Mix apples, blueberries & cashews in a bowl. Drizzle with almond butter and sprinkle with cinnamon. ENJOY!

NOTES:

- Switch it up! Substitute walnuts instead of cashews.
- For an added boost, sprinkle with h**p hearts (high in omega 3 + protein)
- Swap blueberries for another berry of choice and/or added sliced banana as another option.

It's a delicious {and healthy} combo of spinach + unsweetened almond milk + frozen banana + chia seeds + h**p hearts + ground flax + almond butter + vanilla protein powder + cinnamon 😍.

I've also been swapping the vanilla protein for chocolate as well and it tastes just as good 😋.

You walk into a holiday party – what’s the first thing you see?

Decadent desserts, chocolate treats, pastries, candy canes – sweet treats around every corner. If you’re like me, you’re likely tempted to eat everything in sight, but sugar is a sure-fire way to sabotage your weight loss goals in a hurry.

Sugar is not only a major cause of inflammation in the body, but it’s also a significant contributor to excess weight gain this time of year. Both of which you want to avoid.

But that doesn’t mean you have to deprive yourself of indulging just a little. The key is choosing ONE sweet treat and then filling the rest of your plate with veggies, lean protein, and if you are still craving something sweet, opt for fresh fruit.

There is something about the Christmas season that has me craving hot chocolate 🎄☕ You too??.
It could be that everywhere you turn there's mocha this, candy cane hot chocolate that - so I've been treating myself to a healthier version at home..
Now if you haven't tried Mushroom Cacao Mix you are missing out!! Its a blend of organic cacao & reishi mushrooms - and its delicious. 😋❤.
I love that it's both dairy free & gluten free and unlike a lot of other hot chocolate mixes, it doesn't upset my stomach - WIN WIN!!.
Today I enjoyed a mix of:.
Cacao Mix + Hot Water + True Marine Collagen + Unsweetened Almond Milk (splash) + Sprinkle of Cinnamon to top it off.

Did you know enjoying just 1/2 cup of pure pumpkin is your daily intake of Vitamin A?? It's also a great source of Vitamin C, Potassium, Copper, Manganese, Vitamin B2, Vitamin E & Iron..
On top of that it's also a good source of fiber and low in calories {WIN-WIN}.
Equally as nutritious are pumpkin seeds so make sure to consume these bad boys too!!! 🤗.
When buying pumpkin, I tend to purchase canned pumpkin as its available all year long, but make sure it's pure pumpkin not pumpkin pie mix {as that contains a lot of extra additives such as sugar}. Simply ensure the ONLY INGREDIENT is pure pumpkin .
My favourite way to enjoy it is in my Spiced Pumpkin Chocolate Smoothie which is a combo of:.
Unsweetened Almond Milk + Pumpkin Seeds (when seed cycling) + Ground Flax + Spinach + Pure Pumkin + Cinnamon (lots) + Ginger + Nutmeg + Fermented Chocolate Protein Powder + Banana + Almond Butter + Vitamin B & C (a girl needs her vitamins ya know) .
