A hug! Crumbs it felt like the most authentic hug I’ve ever received…
Another corporate organisation guides employees towards mindfulness practice via MWFO for whom I represent.

Today though - a special reward for the teacher: a male participant thanks me for making a difference! And rounds that off with a hug.

That’s why it is; even when things get tough: I simply love what I do.

Thanks to Invenco and the 40 employees who’ve taken on an aspiration to use their own agency in their quest to be well and thrive.

Remember the words of that incredible being… (His Holiness The Dalai Lama)

“If every 8 year old was taught to meditate: humanity would be free of violence within one generation.”

Happy Wednesday everyone.

"Gray matter" - not the type we dye but that which is housed inside our head!
Meditation increases gray matter in these areas of the brain:
INSULA - Handling interoception (the sense of your own body); self-awareness in general; empathy for the emotions of others
HIPPOCAMPUS - Key role in personal recollections, visual-spatial memory, establishing the context of events, and calming down both the amygdala (the alarm bell of the brain) and production of stress hormones like cortisol.
THE PREFRONTAL CORTEX (PFC) - Supports executive functions, self-control, and guiding attention.
(Dr Rick Hanson - Wise Brain Bulletin)

So much housekeeping of the brain, from one small sensory task. Learn to meditate; create a regular habit; be accountable when it gets hard to put yourself first! Become a client and invest in your greatest wealth: your mental health.

The (positive psych) neurological tools that arm us to cope with challenge and suffering are:

1. Build up psychological strengths that will enable us to meet our needs well enough, in the present.
i) relaxation skills (such as meditation); becoming self-aware (knowing the "weather" of our mood); using skilled therapeutic support; attending to biological wellness such as immune system health.

2. Internalising the feeling of needs met enough in the moment.
i) slowing down to help that 'good' passing state become increasingly hardwired as a lasting trait. Weaving it into the nervous system i.e. "taking in the good" (Dr Rick Hanson). Engaging the insula (brain region) to feel the sense of "good", (known as interoception) in the body. Staying with that feeling. Enabling the hardwiring of this experience. Hence, we take the good with us wherever we go. We've learned it. And acquired/cultivated various linked responses between "good" and "challenged" moods.
ii) making a practice of this intentional "taking in the good" daily. And stopping at intervals to do so momentarily during the day.

Why? What makes mindfulness matter? Mindfulness or ‘intentional attentiveness to presence’ affords awareness of our current state. With the discernment we can bring due to awareness - we can live a life that’s more authentically aligned to our values and aspirations. Mindfulness Matters because every life matters! Wild and precious - this privilege of living… deserves conscious observation and total immersion.
