You will never guess what happened to me this time last year...I still have trouble getting my head around it now.
I was held in a circle of women who saw me, encouraged me, and helped me crowdfund my way to India. That moment changed everything. I will never forget that love. .uk
Since returning, I’ve been seeking out more people and places that give me that same feeling of being held, seen, and supported.
The depth of that community grows day by day. Friends, collaborators, groups, so many it’s hard to name them all. Each one reminds me that care and connection are possible.
I’ve been reflecting on something I read from Poppy Jaman about the Penan people:
“In traditional Penan culture, there isn’t a word for ‘please’ or ‘thank you.’ Not because gratitude is missing, but because care is just how community works. Mutual aid is assumed.”
That hit me deeply. When I returned to Buxton after India, I felt a quiet sadness walking through the streets. Now I have words for that feeling, and it inspires me to keep building and seeking connection that flows naturally.
Today, I feel so grateful to the Penan people, to Poppy Jaman, and to everyone who holds me in community now. Thank you for showing up, for holding space, and co-creating joy, rest and trust.
Let’s keep doing more of this together.
How do you feel held in your community?
I would love to hear ✨
