Vip Short just sent me this:
The 20th Century mystic Simone Weil said “If we go down into ourselves, we find that we possess exactly what we desire.” She also said “There is a way of waiting, when we are writing, for the right word to come of itself at the end of our pen.” When I see what flows out on to blank pages, unrehearsed words seemingly chasing my hand … I know what she meant. I have learned, through the excellent and sweet guidance of Merry Song, that allowing the words to write themselves is a powerful way to see past the mind’s obvious offerings, and thus behold undreamed-of renderings of truth.
Since working with Merry Song for these past few years, I have a much deeper understanding of the following:
“That thing you had to force yourself to do — the actual act of writing — turns out to be the best part. It’s like discovering that while you thought you needed the tea ceremony for the caffeine, what you really needed was the tea ceremony. The act of writing turns out to be its own reward.”
~Anne Lamott
And I would simply add to that: its own free revelation.
