We have all had that moment when the alarm goes off and you are just not ready to wake up. Mine went off at 6:00am and after getting only 4 hours of sleep due to my back deciding to spasm all night, I did not want to be awake.
☯️
After 20 minutes of alarms going off every 5 minutes (I have a habit of sleeping through them so I set lots of them 🤷‍♀️🤣) I finally managed to drag my zombie butt out of bed and to the coffee machine. I have an exam to do this morning, so armed with caffeine, my next stop was my diffuser.
☯️
With my exam in mind, I chose Frankincense to help lower stress levels and give my brain a boost, and Elevation and Peppermint to wake me up and get my brain into a functioning state. Not only does it smell great, but I’m feeling more alert already!

Back to studying and after not sleeping well the last few nights, the last place I want to be is in my office. This blend is grounding, yet light and fresh, and the scent has me wanting to be in my office, rather than lazing in another room.

Going back to do my year 11/12 as an adult has been difficult, but so rewarding, and seeing as tomorrow is the start of my very last term, I thought today’s diffuser blend should be uplifting and relaxing.

dōTERRA Spring Cleaning Sunday Tip #2

When was the last time that you deep cleaned your dishwasher?
This chore is usually ignored on the house cleaning list but we have a simple tip to tick off that task. ✔️

Instructions:
1. Add 5 drops of Lemon essential oil, a cup of vinegar and place in a dishwasher-proof dish.
2. Place the dishwasher-proof dish with liquid on the top rack of your dishwasher.
3. Run a cycle that has the hottest water temperature to help wash away grease and grime.
4. Once the cycle has finished, open the door and smell the fresh aroma.

How do you use Lemon essential oil in your daily cleaning? 🍋

Such a great idea!

Using essential oils when you vacuum is a simple way to make your home smell fantastic!

I’ve started using oils in my belly button recently and have seen amazing results, particularly by applying DigestZen for IBS symptoms.

I learnt something new yesterday and wanted to share it with you.....

Who has put essential oils in their belly button before?
Go on..... you know you have :)

It's called the Pechoti Method and it refers to an Ayurvedic approach that has been used over centuries whereby oils are dropped into the belly button.

It's big in the Cannabis community apparently!

The name Pechoti comes from the Pechoti gland which resides behind the belly button and houses more than 72,000 veins and millions of nerves.

This gland it is said, remains in existence once the umbilical cord is cut and continues to be a superhighway of nerve connectivity and blood supply to the rest of the body. So interesting!

I will just note here that - there is no evidence that the Pechoti Gland exists.
It certainly isn't referenced on any mainstream anatomical charts. However, I'm an open-minded individual and just because science hasn't acknowledged its presence, doesn't discount the strong energetics associated with this highly sensitive area or the fact it has been referenced and revered in Eastern texts for hundreds of years.

The belly button is located in our center of gravity.
It sits over your intestines, major lymph nodes and blood vessels. It’s also right near your vagus nerve which is responsible for the rest and digest functions of your body. There’s no muscle behind your navel which makes it the perfect access point to what's happening inside your abdomen, particularly if gut dysbiosis or dysfunction is at play.

Oils such as DigestZen, Lemon, Lemongrass, Peppermint and Oregano (all diluted) would be good options to support gut health with this method.

The rest of your body connects to the belly button via connective tissue and it's also the entry point for the major energy center - your solar plexus, the source of our personal power.

Navels are super reflexology points that stimulate your whole body. I know for myself that I am exceptionally sensitive to having my belly button touched and it takes all my might to sit still and let someone do that to me 🤣

By stimulating your belly button, you send vital life force to all parts of the body which reinvigorates us on all levels and incorporating essential oils allows us to access and support nearly all systems of the body from one tiny location.

Belly stimulation also helps pump nutrients, toxins, waste, lymph and blood in the abdomen which helps your systems stay clear and flowing. It warms your abdomen which increases immune function, relaxes muscles and fascia which in turn calms and helps you breathe more deeply sending more oxygen to your body and brain.

The gastrointestinal tract also contains a whole heap of cannabinoid receptors which makes the Petochi Method really well suited for using essential oils such as Copaiba, Black Pepper, Ylang Ylang and Turmeric which support and activate the endocannabinoid system.

Activating our endocannabinoid system means in turn supporting our central nervous system, neurological pathways and brain function, endocrine system and gastrointestinal system.

I am super curious to give this method of application a go, maybe you'll join me and we can compare notes??

It's really important that we dilute essential oils when using this approach ok so nothing neat please!

Now go forth and love thy belly button ☺️

Fun fact:
Copaiba is a unique essential oil—when applied topically, it enhances the oils applied after. Not only will you enjoy the benefits Copaiba has to offer, but your body will better absorb any other essential oils you use along with it.

We recommend pairing Copaiba with Frankincense, Lavender, Cedarwood, or Deep Blue®. Get creative and see what works for you!

Let’s talk about hovering over the toilet. You would be surprised how many people squat or “hover” over the toilet, especially in a public restroom, to avoid sitting fully on the toilet seat when p*eing. Can I just say as a pelvic floor physical therapist, please stop that right now. It’s not good for your pelvic floor muscles and you’re actually making it way more challenging on yourself to urinate. I’ll explain…

When urinating, the muscles of your pelvic floor need to relax in order to fully empty your bladder. When you are squatting or hovering, you are contracting your pelvic floor muscles, making it more difficult for urine to flow easily. When you don’t fully empty your bladder, you could start experiencing more urinary frequency, urgency, or even increased bladder infections. It’s not worth it. Another problem we should talk about is pushing or straining to try and force the urine out more quickly. Please stop that too as this is not good for your pelvic floor either and could contribute to pelvic organ prolapse.

If you are freaked out about germs, you could use a toilet seat paper liner, but let’s get real, no one loves sitting on crunchy paper. My recommendation is to take your OnGuard hand sanitizer and spray down the seat and wipe it dry before sitting on the toilet. Easy peasy.

So please, for the love of your pelvic floor, bladder, female organs, and all that is holy…Girl, sit on the toilet. 🚽

Now I will share a few more toileting tips with you because we didn’t learn this in school, but we should have. Sit down completely on the toilet and relax when going to the bathroom (hopefully we’ve made that point very clear). Next, lean forward a bit and rest you’re elbows on top of your knees. Relax and avoid distractions like being on your phone. Tune into your body. Take a few deep breaths. Don’t push or strain when going to the bathroom, but rather allow your pelvic floor muscles to sink down, feel heavy, and relax as well. Even when having a bowel movement (you know we had to add p**p into this conversation 💩) don’t push or strain.

I highly recommend investing in a Squatty Potty, which helps your pelvic floor muscles relax and improves the angle of the puborectalis muscle, which basically means you are going to have a much better bathroom experience going number 1 or number 2. You can find it here: https://amzn.to/2jKOdtc.

Okay, back to urinating. When urinating, you should be able to p*e for at least eight seconds (the example is counting 1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi, etc). You should be able to get to 8 Mississippis. If not, you probably did not need to go in the first place, which leads me to my next point. Don’t go to the bathroom just for the sake of going. Tune in, listen to your body, and go when you need to go. On the flip side, don’t hold it when your body is telling you that you need to go. Listen and honor your body and get to the bathroom, because holding it for long periods of time is not good for your pelvic floor either. This is one of the reasons that teachers and nurses can have higher rates of urinary incontinence and leakage, because they cannot always get to the bathroom when they need to, and have to hold it.

Now, let’s wrap this post up with a few questions. Do you experience urinary leakage with coughing, sneezing, laughing, jumping, etc? This is not normal. I know, I know, your doctor, friends, mom, second cousin, etc, told you it was after childbirth, but this is something that can be easily addressed with the help of a pelvic floor PT. Find a specialist in your area by searching here https://pelvicrehab.com/ or here
https://ptl.womenshealthapta.org/ =1.

Now go out there, sit on those toilet seats, and spread the word! You’ve got this! 🚽💪🏻💁🏻‍♀️

♻️recycle, reuse & repurpose

NEVER, EVER throw away your empty essential oil bottles beauties

Add your favourite empty bottles and droppers to a vessel of water.
Allow a couple of days to “soak”
Remove bottles
Add liquid to diffuser for a new “pre-made” blend

Once you have used every last drop of oil remove label (which can be added to a roller bottle 😘)

Pop in a roller, spray or dropper top to the cleaned and de-labelled bottle and voilá
