Bucket List Tummy Thanks for dropping by. I'm a Registered Dietitian with my Master's in Public Health and Nutrition. Food is my life. Come along for the ride!

Bucket List Tummy (BLT) is a healthy living nutrition blog and brand that shares easy + healthy recipes, fitness tips and sciences based nutrition information without feeling the need to diet. The name, "Bucket List Tummy" came to me while reviewing my never-ending list of coffee shops, restaurants, food trucks, farmer’s markets and dessert places I want to try, which is mostly what my bucket list

is –with some adventurous, outdoor scenes thrown in! My bucket list is basically my itinerary for myself, and it guides me and helps me to explore a new area. What better way to explore than through food and culture? My life seemingly revolves around food, and that’s how I really enjoy life to the fullest. I believe that food has so much more purpose to our lives than just helping us survive, build muscle, provide nutrients – yes, all of those things are essential. However, food also brings people together, brings happiness and satisfaction, and creates memories. I wholeheartedly believe that all foods can fit into a healthy lifestyle.

Haven’t done one of these in a while and it’s summer ☀️ and life is chaotic and out of routine (but also, this is the good stuff), so let’s share.

Hi, I’m Sarah! I’ve been a Registered Dietitian for 10 years (I was a career changer and tried everything I DIDNT want to do before that, like working as a bank teller and at a law firm 😂). I have my Masters of Public Health and have somehow sort of created my own wonderful job doing things I love, like writing, communicating nutrition, podcasting, taking pictures of food!

Here are 5 things about me you may not know!

1. 🎤 I’m more of an introvert so the fact that I really love podcasting, media news segments and speaking at conferences is kind of surprising to me?! Things can change and you just never know. These things also just give me a thrill to be “on” and work so hard towards something! PS- have you listened to the podcast yet!? My little passion project that I hope to grow in the next year!

2. ⚾️ I was a tri sport athlete in high school and even played baseball on the boys freshman team. Looking back, I’m so proud of myself for doing that, although it was pretty isolating for me. Girl power! 👊🏻

3. ✈️ I love to travel and while kids have slowed that down a bit, my favorite trips have been Jackson Hole, Wyoming and South Africa! Scotland was really cool and I want to go back and see more 🏰 and the beautiful highlands and countryside. But Greece and Switzerland are on the top of my bucket list.

4. 👩‍🍳 I didn’t really grow up cooking much and my husband jokes that when he met me all I could do was cook a grilled cheese! Living with certainly helped ignite my interest and love of cooking and now I can’t imagine not cooking and baking with the kiddos. Bring on the mess!

5. 👯👦I have three amazing kiddos and as all parents know; the push and pull of motherhood is crazy! You can go from one emotion to another in seconds. I adore these people and part of me wants allll the babies but I also want to give my current kids my everything! I’m not sure I’ll ever be the mom who officially knows she’s “done” but being a mom is hands down the greatest thing I’ve ever done!

Feeding kids feels like a thankless job! I get it, I’ve been there. But there are things we can do to make it a little easier and more fun!

Are you continuing to offer new foods or do you feel stuck in your ways?
Are you convinced your kid will never eat “that?”
Do you only stick to safe foods?

Comment TIPS and I’ll send you my top tips for feeding kids!

Repeat after me - Feeding kids is NOT easy. It’s a long game, not a sprint. We can build upon early habits, which is why consistency and exposure are so important ⏰ 🏃🏼‍♀️

My kids do not always eat their dinner, sometimes they don’t touch it! 🍽️ 🍽️

Here are some of the strategies I try to employ in those situations.

If they do try or eat some of our family meal, that’s a win. At 6, 4 and 1, I don’t expect them to be “clearing” their plates every night. If it happens, great, but if it doesn’t, I remind myself it’s ONLY ONE MEAL, and maybe they ate more earlier in the day.

Remember - you’re a good parent. We don’t need to seek perfection.

Comment SELECTIVE and I’ll send you a blog post I have all on selective eaters!

I’m a huge proponent of family meals any time of year! I feel fortunate that I grew up with an appreciation for family meals. As 1 of 4, we ate together as a family as often as we good, with my parents going around the table asking us to share our highs and lows of the day. This is now ingrained in me and something I so look forward to with my children now, and as they grow up.

AND there are SO MANY benefits to family meals, outside of just nutrition. Which even with nutrition, the benefits are huge! When you consider better emotional and social habits, better well-being for parents, better performance in school, etc., it’s totally worth the hastle of gathering together and eating together - whether it’s a homemade meal, take out, snacks, etc. Just sitting together with friends, family, etc. confers these benefits.

Our goal for is to sit down 4 times per week for a family meal. Most often it’s dinner, but occasionally, it’s breakfast! Do whatever works for your family.

How often do you sit down as a family

I shared a little bit on instagram about the stress I was experiencing with coming back from an international trip with 3 kids and then going right into planning/moving mode. I definitely took too much on - too many work projects, not allowing enough rest and recovery, rushing to do the next thing, preparing the kids for a new house/school, saying goodbye to neighbors. It was a lot, and emotional, all at once, which was why you haven’t seen many posts from me!

I definitely learned a lot about my habits and nutrition during this time, as I often woke up without an appetite. I needed to rely on quick options for breakfast/snacks, so I had to do some meal prep (making muffins, eggs, etc.) to take care of myself in that way.

I felt like I had no time, so I often felt I had to work through lunch and skip workouts. None of that was good for my physical or mental health, and taking a step back and reminding myself that this is just a season and will pass, and that I still had to focus on myself, was so necessary. Being honest with myself, like I tell clients!

RD’s are not perfect. We all experience stress in different ways. Be kind to yourself. Nourish yourself the best way you know how - or ask for help! Seasons pass and sometimes we have to let certain things go that aren’t “right” for the season at hand.

Thankful to all of my support groups, neighbors, friends/family, therapist, flexibility with work, and thankful for my relationship with exercise and meditation. Still working more on the “relaxing part” but steps in the right direction.

Now I’m curious, How do you deal with stress or stressful seasons of life?
