Butterfly Wellness Program 2017
Each year, more people are falling prey to a range of lifestyle-related diseases like diabetes, high or low blood pressure, hypertension, obesity, depression, addiction, anxiety, stress and so on. At Butterfly Ayurveda, we believe that there is an immediate need for an intervention-an experiential based learning to equip you with better treatme
nts & cures. The first step to becoming healthy begins with making changes to your existing lifestyle. Whether simple tweaks or drastic shifts, these changes must be learned and practiced regularly, and experienced with a rooted understanding. One must put the effort, build the stamina, grow the will power and most importantly, be disciplined to enjoy the fruits. Our Wellness Program 2017 introduces you to a panel of mentors and guest facilitators who will help you understand yourself-your body & mind. They will teach you the necessary methods – life skills, exercises and arts – to be physically and mentally fit. With their help, you will learn to identify the obstacles that keep you from achieving your true potential. Further, they will address the issues of our daily lifestyle that vary from the kind of food we eat to the position in which we sleep. Open for all, the program targets those with diabetes, obesity, liver or mental disorders or any other lifestyle related disorder. Family members or friends of the concerned persons are more than welcome and encouraged to join the program. What will the program entail?
1. Mental Health Awareness: There is no health without mental health. Without a sound mind, you cannot care for yourself, your life or anybody around you. Today, the underlying issues of most health problems are connected with mental health. Depression, stress, anxiety or anger are the forbearers of many diseases to come. Dr. Kohli’s (Clinical Psychologist, Public Speaker & Holistic Practitioner) workshop will discuss the relationship between physical and mental health. It is important to understand the links between mind and body as the first step in developing strategies to reduce the incidence of co-existing conditions and support those already living with mental illnesses and chronic physical conditions. Doctor Kohli, will be sharing psycho-spiritual tools and techniques to resolve mental health issues and enabling those who are suffering from chronic mental and physical problems to live better and more holistically.
2. Qi Gong: Qi Gong is a 2500-year-old ancient Chinese health care system; integrating physical postures and breathing techniques, which have been developed by monks in deep meditation. It cultivates the internal energy. ‘Qi’ means - breath & ‘Gong’ means skill/achievement. The cultivation of ‘Qi’ is vital to the Shaolin philosophy of the unity of Ch’an and Wushu. This practice builds, accumulates and circulates the flow of ‘Qi’ energy latent in our bodies, resulting in improved health, and physical and social conditions. It works upon the twelve meridians of the body. The basis of the exercises is in line with the ancient theories intrinsic to traditional Chinese medicine of the five elements (metal, wood, water, fire and earth) and the five internal organs (heart, liver, spleen, lungs and kidney). ‘More Qi – Train Harder’ is the watchword of Shifu Kumar, the founder of Damo Shaolin Kung Fu school, who is a 34th Generation Shaolin Warrior Monk and will be giving this workshop.
3. Aahar: 'What we eat’ is a big part of who we are, how we behave and what becomes of us. Most of us have little or poor knowledge about the quality and quantity of food for intake to keep ourselves fit and glowing. It is important to always eat freshly cooked meal as it is light and warm, so easily digestible, and a gift to the body and skin. Stored food lacks nutritive value and when consumed regularly affects the digestive fire, making it low, which causes stomach illnesses and becomes the starting point of many other illnesses. The workshop by Dr. Kiran Srivastava (Senior R&D Advisor, Butterfly Ayurveda) will focus on the quality & quantity of food we must consume, about the relationship between Prakriti (each individual's body constitution) and Agni, the Role of Digestive fire- 'Jatharagni' and the food that is suitable to be taken according to one's prakriti.
4. Ayurvedic & Modern Science Approach to Management of Diabetes & Obesity: Diabetes and Obesity pose major threats to mental and physical health, making one prone to getting caught in chronic conditions & cycles of problems. The workshop with Prof. Dr. PK Prajapati (Dean & HOD, Dept. of Ras Shastra & Bhaishajya Kalpana, AIIA) will focus on the role of Aahar (food) and Vihara (dincharya) in the management of diabetes. Dr. Santosh Kumar Bhatted (HOD & Associate Professor, Dept. of Panchakarma, AIIA) will deliberate over the role of Panchakarma (ayurvedic bio purification therapy) in managing obesity and liver disorders, and Dr. Anupam Srivastava (Scientist-2 (Ayurveda), Ministry of Ayush) will discuss management of diabetes through Ayurveda. The role of Modern Science in management of diabetes and obesity will be taken up by Dr. Vikas Ahluwalia (Director, Metabolic & Bariatric Medicine, Max Super Speciality Hospital).
5. Yoga: Yoga means union of the body and mind. Practicing yoga helps in attaining composure and balance; it opens doors to exploration of our inner & spiritual selves. Yoga asanas & pranayamas involve body postures and movements while controlling our breathing. These movements help channelize the flow of prana, or vital force, from our nadis. The workshop will highlight the scientific and medical aspects of the body-mind union. Yogi Arun has tailored routines to suit the modern lifestyle and his methods have proved effective in eradicating and subsiding impact of serious diseases.
6. Know Your Prakriti: Prakriti is the unique body constitution of each individual. Just like the universe, our bodies are also made up of the five great elements: air (vayu), water (jal), fire (agni), earth (prithvi) and ether (akash). These elements further condense into Vata, Pitta and Kapha- the three doshas that run through our whole body. The permutations and combinations of these three doshas make for different body constitutions. Understanding one's own Prakriti can help you make better choices in life with respect to your wellbeing. All ayurveda workshops will entail analysis and understanding of one’s true prakriti to begin with. It is the foundation for the road to personal growth. Our vision is to develop a holistic approach to understanding health, and to be able to identify symptoms, as and when they appear in our bodies & minds, to take the needful actions to prevent falling ill. Like always said, prevention is anytime better than cure. The idea behind the Wellness Program is to build a community that grows to become more aware about good health, and learns to practice it.
