Black and Brown skin tones are under-represented in lactation education materials.This can result in:

➡ Misdiagnosis
➡ Delayed treatment
➡The feeding journey ending sooner than planned

At Spectrum Lactation, we’re working to change this through our open access image library for parents & professionals. The library includes images of conditions on lactating breasts & chests of all skin tones.

The Spectrum Lactation website is now live! 🥳 Share & tag everyone NOW!

After much hard work, our website is now up and running!
Now we need YOU to help us gather images to take us to the next stage, and bring to life our vision of an open access image bank of normality, pathology & anatomical variations in the lactating breast/chest, with a particular focus on Black and Brown skin.

Meet the Team: Dr Justice Reilly

Dr Justice Reilly BSc MBChB MRCS DOHNS, IBCLC is a speciality breast Doctor in Glasgow.

Justice is also a La Leche League Breastfeeding Counsellor. La Leche League International
She is committed to improving access & equity in maternal & child healthcare.

Meet the Team: Wanja Knighton

Wanja is the founder of RISE (Racially Inclusive Skin Evidence).
RISE is an international non-profit that collects diverse images for digital health & artificial intelligence for healthcare purposes in order to combat racial bias.

Wanja’s vision is a future where all are equal under the eyes of those who need to see us.

Meet the Team: Dr Ilana Levene

Ilana is a Neonatal Doctor & breastmilk researcher working in the field of human milk for the preterm infant.

She is co-chair of the Hospital Infant Feeding Network and was a trustee of community breastfeeding charity Oxfordshire Breastfeeding Support

She strives to be an antiracist ally.

Dr Nav Paul MBBS BSc (Hons.) MRCGP DRCOG DFSRH DPD PGCert MRCP FRSA, is a Senior Clinical Fellow in Dermatology & GPSI (GP with special interest) in London.

Nav is passionate about equality, diversity & inclusion in healthcare.

She hopes to use digital technology to improve accessibility & representation for all people.
