Imagine having your lifeline suddenly cut. That's the dire situation people with disabilities are facing right now due to federal Medicaid cuts impacting home- and community-based services. These critical supports are what allow individuals to live independently and thrive in their own communities. Their disappearance could mean losing the ability to remain in their homes, a reality that the Madden sisters and countless other people with disabilities are anxiously confronting.

The 17-year-old author's first work, "One in a Millieon," celebrates Millie, who has Down syndrome. With just three years separating them, Ava beautifully captures their special connection in her book.
